One day, an old man boarded a bus. As he was going up the steps, one of his shoes slipped off. The door closed and the bus moved off so he was unable To retrieve it. The old man calmly took off his other shoe and threw it out of the window.

A young man on the bus saw what happened, and could not help going up to the old man and asking, "I noticed what you did, sir. Why did you throw out your other shoe?"

Now tell me guys, whats the old man is upto?

Didn't think he was up to anything. What's a chap to do with one shoe? Just extra weight to carry round. Seems to me like tossing out the other one is sensible, not an occasion to be questioned.

The old man is a tramp. He had just been given a pair of shoes so he could go for a job interview (or whatever). When he lost one, he threw out the other so his friend could have his pair back.

One shoe just barely more useful than a 1/2 a pair of pants.

But keep them together and they might hold some value for the next person waiting for the bus.

well that's all well and good, but what if you have no shoes or pants, but aren't waiting for the bus?

I don't think they'd even let you on a bus with no pants.

I hate it when old men walk around without their pants on.

The old man replied, "So that whoever finds them will be able to use them. Do not hold on to something simply for the sake of possessing it or because you do not wish others to have it.

Maybe this happened to add momentum to a series of events leading to a better pair of shoes for the old man. Maybe the search for another pair of shoes would lead the old man to a great benefactor.
We all have to decide constantly if some things or people have run their course in our lives or would be better off with others.
I errrrrrmmm googled the question and found............
