[RESOLVED] Compaq m700 battery functions

Reply Mon 28 Nov, 2005 08:23 am
I have two Li ion batteries for my Armada m700 laptop. One, a factory version, which charges, has a metal tab on the lower left corner of the printed side. The other and newer one, a Hi-Capacity aftermarket version, which does not charge, does not have the metal tab. What is the function of the metal tab and is this the reason the other battery does not charge?
Thanks,

Generic batteries often will have contact surfaces to accommodate a variety of applications. So long as the battery has the contacts appropriate to your application, it should function as designed. If that battery is not charging in your machine, but your original battery does, I would think it most likely either the new one is not the right battery, or that it is itself defective.

Battery
Thanks for the advice. It does seem the battery is faulty. I also taped over the metal tab on the factory battery. It charges fine and the battery monitor works fine also. The tab is a mystery. I am getting an exchange battery from the aftermarket vendor.
