:-(

I believe that c.i. has said that Pat Morita was a friend of his, so special condolences to him.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear about that. And he was not that old!

I had no idea he was nominated for an Oscar. But it makes sense looking back.

I was more interested in kicking ass after I first saw Karate Kid. I was six and it was the first movie my family ever rented, to watch on our first VCR.

Then my friend Dan came over and I watched it again. And then we tried the "crane technique" on each other in the living room.

We taught that to sozlet a few weeks ago.

I think everyone roughly our age "knows" how to do it. (It's not hard.)

I'm not very familiar with his work but I found it embarrassingly type-cast and sometimes racist. Especially when he played Japanese soldier roles.
I'd love for someone to correct my opinion.

Actually, I can see that, though I'm not familiar with the soldier roles.

It may be less racist-seeming if Japanese were more visible in other roles, roles that have nothing to do with martial arts or bonsai trees.
