Well, can I?
I know some threads have been locked, as in no more posts could be added. The only suggestion I can offer is that you go to the bottom of the page and press the "contact us" button. Hopefully someone else can offer a better answer.
You can also click the "Report" button in the upper right hand corner of the offending first post.
Yeppers, contact the Mods.
I have no idea if they will close the thread.
If they do not, I suggest all you can do is stop updates, and never look at it, if it is angering/distressing you.

saddening me, is I think the most descriptive....
So, how do I get a moderator to answer this question?
What Sturgis said. (There's a "Contact Us" link down at the bottom of the page, in blue, between "Privacy Policy and "Help.")
OK - I already dood that - guess I just haveta wait, eh?
Yeppers......the Mods move in mysterious and considered ways their wonders to perform.
I wouldn't be holding my breath, though, just quietly.
Imagine how many people might want a thread shut, or removed, or jiggled and tweaked in some way...especially now that we can no longer edit posts.
I am sorry you are sad, though!
