WE DO THINGS FOR OURSELVES AND LEAVE THE BILL TO POSTERITY.'

I noticed this quote in our local newspaper, Rome News-Tribune, Saturday, October 15, 2005. My wife says this is how Americans behave today. Just curious, what is your take on the quote?
It's a sentiment that has been around for some time and shared by a lot of people. (The earliest reference I can find for it is in "20,000 Quips & Quotes" by Evan Esar which was published in 1968.)

Mmmm....in the QUOTES section, do you have general discussion or do you focus on comments such as yours?
By the way, I just noted your quote re a raindrop...it really hit me.

I don't think there are any hard and fast rules. You can take your thread in any direction you'd like to.

Like the original quote you posted, I think if someone thinks about it they can see the truth in it. It can be applied to many, many situations!
Well, if no one else responds, I may go nowhere.
