Here's an excerpt from an article written in this weekend's edition of the USA Today, and this is verbatim....
The 3.5 million World War II vets are dying at a rate of 1,025 per day, says the Department of Veterans Affairs. The 8 million living Vietnam veterans are mostly in their 50s and 60s.
I read that and thought no way in hell those figures could be right. 8 million living Vietnam Vets!? Bull. Weren't there 8 millions soldiers in World War II?
That would make more sense to me. Factoring in the time since the war and the age of the soldiers, there probably have been 4.5 million who have already expired.
I've had a few arguments already on this subject and some people claim 8 million wouldn't be an unrealistic number for living Vietnam Vets, considering the length of time that conflict took and the constant shuffling of troops. My contention is the number is lower -- much lower.
Does anyone know the stats for Americans serving in World War II and Vietnam?
Thanks.
Gustav
perhaps they meant 8 million (vietnam era vets) but even that seems out ofline.

Thanks, Tico. I am surprised by those numbers.
The correct number is 3. But I may be off + or - 8 million.

There are some sobering statistics on this site.
But not really suprising ones.
An interesting aspect regarding these vast numbers of all men who died during WW2, Korea and Vietnam ... doesn't this suggest that THE SINGLE MOST important group of voters for politicians to woo, manipulate and depend upon, would be the votes of the women of American?
