After getting all the data off my crashed drive with help from the peeps here I'm having trouble getting my email back.
The thing is that I changed my name when I reinstalled XP Pro onto the new primary drive and so I have a new identity.
I think this is at the root of the problem of why I can't simply copy the saved .dbx files from the old identity on the crashed drive into the usual folder and have Outlook Express see them.
I suspect that I should get the old identity off the crashed drive too and then use the 'import mail from identity' facility in OuEx.

So, am I on the right track here or is there no way to get the old .dbx files recognised by OuEx ?

I think you're on the right track - bring the entire old OE identity to the new drive, then, from the transfered old identity (now on the new drive) you should be able to transfer the contents of its folders to folders in the new identity's Inbox or other folders. Then just delete the old identity.

Prolly be a good idea to scan (antivirus and antispyware) the folders of the old identity before dragging them onto the new machine.
