My daughters neighbor has a scanner and has been listening into their phone calls. How did he find the frequency to do this and isnt it illegal?
I could be wrong, but I think many cordless phones run off of 2.4 ghz and a scanner could easily tap that frequency?
In many states it is illegal. Most require the consent of at least one party in the conversation. There is usually a notice in the consumer education section of your local phone book that would give you an indication of the laws in your state.
The frequencies are easy enough to find. The scanner will do that for you in a matter of seconds.
I also have a scanner but mine is a programable police emergency type can I program it to pick up his calls also? (It wouldn't hurt my feelings to let the local authorities know about his drug dealings).
Tomorrow I will be contacting the local phone company to see if this is illegal or not in this area. If not its my turn but if so its time to turn him in. One way or the other this needs to stop.
Thanks to all for any insight into this matter
Scanning is a hobby that many people have. They pick up whatever is out there. Have your daughter get a spread spectrum phone. It will make it harder to intercept her calls.
Here is some info on scanning and how to protect yourself a little.
