I have a Panasonic CF-47 Toughbook laptop with Windows 98. I also have an HP Officejet v40xi 4-in-1 machine. After taking the computer to the shop because the cursor went off the screen, the problem was solved by using a USB mouse(I have a touchpad). After I got home and tried to print, nothing happened. I've tried: 1) direct print(no spool) 2) uninstalling/reinstalling 3) checking all connections.
The printer makes slight clicks after getting the PRINT command, but that's all. The error message always comes up: "error writing to LPT1: for the printer is not ready. Make sure it is turned on and online."
Please give me some suggestions to get the printer to work. Thanks.
Have you power cycled the printer ?
Printer won't print
What exactly do you mean by "Power Cycle?"
That means turn it off and turn it back on. Actually, its a reasonable suggestion. I suggest you shut down your computer - shut it off, don't just restart it, then turn off your printer, unplug it from the wall for around a minute, plug it back in, turn it on, wait a few seconds, then start your computer; its very possible the computer will recognize and install the printer on boot, with no input from you at all. Its worth a shot.
