Have ya'll been keeping up with Jack Thompson? For those of you who don't know, he's the famed Miami lawyer who went after Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and the sex mod for the PC version. Recently, he also attacked The Sims 2 for the mod that takes away "the blurs" from the naked sims (e.g. after showers, etc.) He seems to have a smart plan of attack, going after the more famous games for their sex and violence content. Research is also claiming that video games have been "training ground" for various shootings and other crimes.
I think going to the point of banning games is a bad idea, but I do think that something needs to be thought up for game ratings. While there are some parents who keep a watchful eye on what their child is playing, other parents don't know (or don't have a care) about what games their kids are playing. I've noticed lately that electronics stores are becoming much more anal about showing ID for mature-rated games (I saw a kid get denied Halo 2 on the day it came out), which I think is a good sign.
What do ya'll think?
