Norton Windoctor (v18.0.0.62) is unable to fix 45 issues:
28 invalid activex/com entries,
16 invalid file extensions,
and a missing program file, gapi32.dll (i searched for this dll and found it nowhere on my pc).
Likewise, CCleaner (v1.23.160) is unable to fix 33 issues: Activex/com issues, unused file extensions, and invalid default icons.
I can be much more specific, if need be. Any thoughts so far?
Have you tried running them in safe mode? Its quite possible some other running app, mebbe even yuckware, is inhibiting their ability to remove the items.
For more detailed help, it could be useful to know your Windows version and its Service Pack status.
As for the file WinDoctor had trouble with,
gapi32.dll, thats a known WinDoctor glitch; it looks for gapi32.dll in the wrong directory. You can either
1) Copy the file to where WinDoctor expects to find it (not the best idea, IMO)
or
2) Tell WinDoctor to ignore the error (which would be my choice)
For more information, See Microsoft:
Error Message: <Systemroot>\System32\Mapisrvr.exe Cannot Access a Necessary File, "Gapi32.dll"
and
Symantec:
WinDoctor cannot fix the error " 'C:\WINNT\System32\MAPISRVR.EXE' cannot access a necessary file 'Gapi32.dll' "
Oh, BTW - As of this writing, the current version of CCleaner is v1.24.180
I have tried running it in safe mode, but i'm not able to for some reason. Whenever i try, i get this pop-up message that disappears very quickly, and then it restarts itself into normal mode. The small graphic to the left of the text looks like something that has to do with administrative tools. It says something about temporary users...something like that. I suppose i shoudl start a new thread about this topic, though.
...and as for the dll, it's just not on my computer. Some registry program must have deleted it. I have found where i can download a copy of it though.
