For the House Republican view of this bill see:

It has not made it out of committee yet. With the 5-4 decision in McCrary County v. ACLU, I wouldn't assume that the Supreme Court would find it unconstitutional.

People For The American Way:

Houses Of Worship Free Speech Restoration Act

What's at Stake?

Religious liberty is at the very heart of the American way and People For the American Way (PFAW) is at the forefront of the defense of religious liberty - in Congress, in the courts, and in communities across the land. In the 108th Congress, threats to religious liberty included a bill to encourage political electioneering in our houses of worship.

On January 4, 2005, Representative Walter Jones (R-NC) and other members of Congress again introduced a bill, the Houses of Worship Free Speech Restoration Act (H.R. 235), that would change tax laws to permit churches, temples, mosques, synagogues and other houses of worship to endorse political candidates.

This intermingling of politics and religion would further dismantle the wall of separation between church and state.
