A song have never affected me that way, but hearing beautiful classical music in a symphony hall has. There's something about orchestra music that reaches the innermost part of me. My wife and I used to attend the San Francisco Symphony for over 13 seasons until I got tired of the drive into San Francisco on Friday evenings.

My last symphony was in Malta last April in the second oldest theater in Europe. The musicians were excellent - much better than I anticipated.

I've always enjoyed singing by Karen Carpenter, Nat King Cole, Sinatra, Ella, Rosemary Clooney, and a few others.

The first time I saw The Sound of Music, the opening scene was one of the most beautiful, and I believe I had tears.

Several songs have made me cry- more-so for the nosalgic value rather than the song itself. I love how music can just bring you right back to that time in place in your life.

...although the swiss have adapted. you can take sound of music tours - my roommate's boyfriend was a tourguide. i'd advise against them. he invented two thirds of the stuff...

Forever Young ~ Alphaville
No Rain ~ Blind Melon
Anna Begins ~ Counting Crows
Jack & Diane ~ John Mellencamp (my bf and I were at a piano bar, and this song came on and the moment was right and the tears began Smile ).
Living on a Prayer ~ Bon Jovi (Kinda cheesy, I know, but I was at a bar/club with my law school friends, all of us singing, and the line "We'll make it I swear..." really got to me).

There have been many more, I'm sure, but these songs in particular have stuck in my mind.

After having seen it in London, it took me a long time to even be able to listen to many of the songs from "Les Mis."

Now, when I see the 10 year anniversary video (I think it is), I get choked up with all the Jean Val Jeans from around the world doing "Do You Hear the People Sing?"

Crazy In Alabama
Kate Campbell

I heard Odessa's mind was sick
That she was crazier than hell
The police caught her turning tricks
Down at the Blue and Gray motel
Odessa was the neighbor's maid
She had ten mouths at home to feed

They bussed her kids to Birmingham
And put her in the county jail
Nobody seemed to give a damn
They say a white man posted bail
My dad said not to breathe a word
I told my brother all I heard

And the train of change
Was coming fast to my hometown
We had the choice to climb on board
Or get run down

It was crazy there were grown men fights
Over segregation and civil rights
Martin Luther King and the KKK
George C. Wallace and LBJ
And when the National Guard came in
I thought the world was gonna end
It was crazy in Alabama

Down at the corner Dairy Dip
They sold soft ice cream for a dime
White people ordered from the front
The side was for the colored line
We all were told they had their place
Because they were a different race

We spent hot summer afternoons
At the public swimming pool
Where the privileged and the few
Played on their island of cool blue
Brown children watched outside the fence
It never made one lick of sense

But the train of change
Was coming fast to my hometown
We had the choice to climb on board
Or get run down

It was crazy there were grown men fights
Over segregation and civil rights
Martin Luther King and the KKK
George C. Wallace and LBJ
And when the National Guard came in
I thought the world was gonna end
It was crazy in Alabama

My momma yelled child get inside
Drew the drapes and locked the doors
We watched the marchers passing by
Felt the rumble heard the roar
They all held hands they sang and wept
And freedom rang in every step

Cause the train of change
Was marching through my hometown
We had the choice to climb on board
Or get run down

It was crazy there were grown men fights
Over segregation and civil rights
Martin Luther King and the KKK
George C. Wallace and LBJ
And when the National Guard came in
I thought the world was gonna end
It was crazy in Alabama

Creed

Hello my friend
We meet again
It's been a while
Where should we begin?
Feels like forever
Within my heart
Are memories
Of perfect love that
You gave to me
Oh, I remember
When you are with me
I'm free, I'm careless
I believe
Above all the others
We'll fly
This brings tears
To my eyes
My sacrifice

We've seen our share
Of ups and downs
Oh, how quickly life
Can turn around
In an instant
It feels so good to reunite
Within yourself and
Within your mind
Let's find peace there

'Cause when you are
With me
I'm free, I'm careless
I believe
Above all the others
We'll fly
This brings tears
To my eyes
My sacrifice

I just want to
Say hello again
I just want to
Say hello again

When you are with me
I'm free, I'm careless
I believe
Above all the others
We'll fly
This brings tears
To my eyes

'Cause when you are
With me
I'm free, I'm careless
I believe
Above all the others
We'll fly
This brings tears
To my eyes
My sacrifice
My sacrifice

(I just want to
Say hello again)
I just want to
Say hello again

My sacrifice

"You're Beautiful"

My life is brilliant.

My life is brilliant.
My love is pure.
I saw an angel.
Of that I'm sure.
She smiled at me on the subway.
She was with another man.
But I won't lose no sleep on that,
'Cause I've got a plan.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.

Yeah, she caught my eye,
As we walked on by.
She could see from my face that I was,
Flying high, [ - video/radio edited version]
******* high, [ - CD version]
And I don't think that I'll see her again,
But we shared a moment that will last till the end.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
I saw your face in a crowded place,
And I don't know what to do,
'Cause I'll never be with you.

You're beautiful. You're beautiful.
You're beautiful, it's true.
There must be an angel with a smile on her face,
When she thought up that I should be with you.
But it's time to face the truth,
I will never be with you.

Try Whistling This by Neil Finn, every time I hear it

Tales from my head
Can't buy the book
No one's listening
But I guess you could
Try Whistling This

You say you're tierd
Liquid as water
But you'll succumb now
As I stroke your back
Cause I'm the best that you know

And every time you think of me
I hope you think of true romance
And every time you want to leave
You give us both another chance

Warmest welcome
Violent stranger
Well he said come here
As you pushed me down
Impossible to do
In high heels
Walking into walls
Do you ever wonder
If you're here at all
Try Whistling This

And your words are ringing in my ear
Drawing your attention to all the things that you ignore
If I can't be with you I would rather have a different face
And if I can't be near you I would rather be adrift in space
And if the gods desert us now I would burn this chapel into flames
And if someone tries to hurt you I would put myself in your place

it's not only those words, the instruments (the heartbeat-like drum, the intensity and loning of the piano) AND Neil's voice, I heard this song live in 1998 and they turned the lights off for it. Very emotional, it still gets me Shocked

Okay, this is really embarrassing, but the song, "Drops of Jupiter," by that band, Train...

Good choice. Wink

I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing by Aerosmith gets my feelings a-swirlin', but the only time it actually brought me to tears was at the end of Armaggedon, which by the way, was a pretty good movie.

Also, Pink Floyd gets me with Wish You Were Here. Though it's a little too upbeat to make me cry or anything. But it's an amazing song.

There are several songs that pretty much always make me cry, music makes me kinda emotional. Crying or Very sad

I agree heartily w/ whoever it was that already mentioned "In My Life" by the Beatles...sniff!

There are quite a few by the Smashing Pumpkins. They're the band that my boyfriend and I always listened to when we had to be apart and were longing for each other, and what I listened to when I was all screwed up in the head after my parents split up, and when I first moved out and felt all lonely and weird. Memories!

Just in case anyone here knows any Pumpkins, these are the specific songs that just dissolve me:

Once Upon A Time-- makes me think of my mom, growing up, the poignant knowledge that your parents will be gone someday...

To Sheila-- the music and the yearning and mournfulness in Billy Corgan's voice sort of capture for me all those sad feelings about life that I can't put into words...

Winterlong...Oh, this song just kills me. Some lyrics:

sometimes it seems so long
since you had a chance to refuse

we built a fire
winterlong
transform to iron
winterlong
i was the first one
i was the last one to be strong

Crying or Very sad

Couldn't Love You More
John Martyn

If you kissed the sun right out of the sky for me
If you told me all the lies I might deserve
If you lay all night in the rain for me
Just couldn't love you more
I couldn't love you more

If you loved me till my eyes can no more shine for you
If you walked beside me all the long way home
If you wasted all of your time on me
Well I couldn't love you more
Just couldn't love you more
I couldn't love you more

If you gave me all the things I'd never ask of you
If you showed me all the ways you have to cry
If you lay all night in the rain for me
I couldn't love you more
Just couldn't love you more
Just couldn't love you more

There are many songs that make me cry.
I cry at commercials that are cute.

But one song that always makes me cry is "Hero" by Mariah Carey.
It reminds me of a very good friend of mine who passed away a few years back. We grew up together. He was like one of my brothers. And he was a Hero. Crying or Very sad
