this one used to get to me a bit
then I had an incident a lot like it
now it makes me all uncomfortable and ready to blubber

Met my old lover in the grocery store
The snow was falling Christmas Eve
I stole behind her in the frozen foods
And I touched her on the sleeve
She didn't recognize the face at first
But then her eyes flew open wide
She went to hug me and she spilled her purse
And we laughed until we cried
We took her groceries to the checkout stand
The food was totalled up and bagged
We stood there lost in our embarrassment
As the conversation dragged
We went to have ourselves a drink or two
But couldn't find an open bar
We bought a six-pack at the liquor store
And we drank it in her car
We drank a toast to innocence, we drank a toast to now
And tried to reach beyond the emptiness but neither one knew how
She said she'd married her an architect
Who kept her warm and safe and dry
She would have liked to say she loved the man
But she didn't like to lie
I said the years had been a friend to her
And that her eyes were still as blue
But in those eyes I wasn't sure if I saw doubt or gratitude
She said she saw me in the record stores
And that I must be doing well
I said the audience was heavenly but the traveling was hell
We drank a toast to innocence, we drank a toast to now
And tried to reach beyond the emptiness but neither one knew how
We drank a toast to innocence, we drank a toast to time
Reliving in our eloquence, another 'auld lang syne'
The beer was empty and our tongues were tired
And running out of things to say
She gave a kiss to me as I got out and I watched her drive away
Just for a moment I was back at school
And felt that old familiar pain
And as I turned to make my way back home
The snow turned in to rain...

the drinking in the car in the rain and talking

<ughhhhh>

Ahh, Dan Fogelberg, right ehbeth? That's a touchy one.

I've still got tears just from reading Kicky's post on page one. Talk about a crybaby, and you're talking about me.

They are playing Cirrius Radio at work. We are supposed to be selling furniture while "The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald" , "Sunshine" , Jim Croce and John Denver play over the speakers. YIKES! Talk about depressing!

Kylie (girl cub) and I have "girl time" every Tuesday and watch Gilmore Girls. I know in a couple of years when she leaves for college the theme song will bring me lots of tears.

If you're out on the road
Feelin' lonely and so cold
All you have to do is call my name
And I'll be there
On the next train

Where You Lead
I will follow
Anywhere that you tell me to
If you need-If you need me to be with you
I will follow
Where you lead

Kicky, your tender story does not surprise me. I saw tenderness in your eyes in the picture ehBeth was wearing.

I'm a very sentimental person, so I cry when I'm sad, and even when I'm happy. Many songs, and instrumentals make me cry for joy, pain, and wonder. It could be the words, the music or the most beautiful instrument, the human voice.

The following by Enya "Only Time" makes me cry, and I feel transported in a tear into the waves of time.

Who can say where the road goes,
Where the day flows, only time?
And who can say if your love grows,
As your hearth chose, only time?

Who can say why your heart sights,
As your live flies, only time?
And who can say why your heart cries
when your love lies, only time?

Who can say when the roads meet,
That love might be , in your heart?
and who can say when the day sleeps,
and the night keeps all your heart?

Night keeps all your heart.....

Who can say if your love grows,
As your heart chose, only time?
And who can say where the road goes
Where the day flows, only time?

Who knows? Only time
Who knows? Only time

I Think It's Going to Rain Today (but it's gotta be sung by Randy N.)

Broken windows and empty hallways,
a pale dead moon in a sky streaked with grey.
Human kindness is overflowing,
and I think it's gonna rain today.

Scarecrows dressed in the latest styles,
the frozen smiles to chase love away.
Human kindness is overflowing,
and I think it's gonna rain today.

Lonely, lonely.
Tin can at my feet,
I think I'll kick it down the street.
That's the way to treat a friend.

Bright before me the signs implore me:
Help the needy and show them the way.
Human kindness is overflowing,
and I think it's gonna rain today.

Lonely, so lonely.
Tin can at my feet,
I think I'll kick it down the street.
That's the way to treat a friend.

Bright before me the signs implore me:
Help the needy and show them the way.
Human kindness is overflowing,
and I think it's gonna rain today.

Several songs can set me off at different times according to where I am at emotionally at the moment. Then there are some which always bring a tear to the eye. In particular I have to admit that the rather un-Poison like release of Something To Believe In can get me every time. I first heard it on the radio and shortly thereafter bought my first (and only) Poison CD. Another one which gets me and is in a completely different genre is by James King, a bluegrass artist. The song is Listen To My Hammer Ring which I first heard at the time a friend of mine was killed in a rather tragic freak accident. Pio was a carpenter so the song just sort of sets me off into the need of vast quantities of tissues to dab my eyes with, I think of his father and what that man had been through. Anyway it's 2 years today so by the end of the day I will be a blubbering mess. Sweetheart of a guy Pio was.

There are others which may or may not set me off on a particular day but don't always reach in and rip at my heart strings.

Oy, I'm getting a lump just reading some of the posts.
I'm sentimental when it comes to music. There are a good many that can get me tearing up, blubbering, or bawling.

"You are so beautiful to me" by Joe Cocker.
Every single time I hear that song I cry. If I'm driving, I have to pull over.
My father loved that song. He would play it over and over in the car and sing it in his off-tune way. Joe would be singing "you are" and dad would be single the previous verse along. I can still see his face when that song comes on, and his voice. He's in the driverseat in the car, smiling while the wind blows through his hair, and cranking his head to look at me while I'm laughing.
Ohh, I was such a daddy's girl.

Come xmas time many members of our family, and friends will have a sleep over xmas eve to wake up together for xmas day. We do this for the many children in our family. Grandma's is the biggest house, so, we always have it there.

Among the many xmas music we have, we also have a tape called The Simpsons Sing the Blues. It has a song called "I love to see you smile". I always danced to this song carrying my disabled niece (Stephanie, the one who died). I always, and still do cry when I hear it. You see the baby never smiled, and I wanted her to smile so badly.

Love to See You Smile
-----------------------
Written by Randy Newman

1 I was born to make you happy.
I think you're just my style.
Every where I go,
Telling everyone I know,
Baby, I love to see you smile.

2 Don't want to take a trip to china.
Don't want sail up the Nile.
Wouldn't wanna get too far,
From where you are,
'Cause I love to see you smile.

1 In the Summer,
In the Spring time,
Winter, or the Fall,
The only place
I wanna be
Is where I can see you smile at me.

If you like that Poison's song, try also a song called Believe by Savatage. Savatage is hard rock like Poison, but a bit different. Check it out. That and some Dream Theater songs like Space Dye Vest I mentioned.

I remember that Poison song being quite emotional too. I had that album years ago. I need to get that back someday.

For me it's Love Rain on Me by The Who. Very powerful song. I was especially touched when I heard them perform it in Hershey 2 weeks after the death of John Entwhistle. It got to my 10 year old son too. There are several songs I play in Church on the guitar which choke me up too.

supergirl, raemon
perfect gentleman, wyclef jean
what would you do?, city high
family portrait, pink
kryptonite, 3 doors down

and this one - just now:

Split Personality (pink)

I do not trust
So I can not love (can't no man be trusted)
Oh no, no, no
And I will not dare to open up
(this life of yours is dusted Pink)

Well my rent's passed due
And now my car won't start
I hate the bus
(aren't you glad you have somebody to talk to?)

Tell me what do they see
When they look at me
Do they see my many personalities, oh no?

Can you help me?
Can anybody hear me?
Can they even see me?
This is my reality, oh no

(Can it be my turn now? Is it my turn, Pink?)
Said I'll say it again
You're my only friend
(I'll protect you from the world, I'll basically protect you from yourself)
Though I can't go on
I'm not satisfied
With this being the end
(this is just the beinning)

Tell me why can't I
Just reach up and simply touch the sky
Tell me why can't I
Spread my arms and fly and fly and fly
Tell me can't I say this
Why can't I do that?
Tell me, what do they want from me?
Tell me how to act

So I'm putting it all on the table
You don't know me well enough to label me
Sick even disturbed
When you break it down I'm just two girls
Trying to blend, trying to vibe (trying)
Trying to live just one life (it's so hard)
<b>Everybody's got insanities
I've got a split personality</b>

(Why won't you talk to me?)
Can you help me?
(Talk to me don't ignore me)
Do you hear me?
(I can't take it)
Do you see me? Oh, it's mine
(Oh calm down)
It's all mine
(It's not that serious)
It's my realty
(We'll be just fine without them)
It's just too much for me
(Forget them)
Oh, oh
(You're my friend)
Oh
(My friend)
Oh

suffice it to say that yesterday I was crying over "Mmm-bop" cuz ... it just made me so sad! heheheh

but I've got that with "imagine", too - because, at this point - I think that's what the world needs more of. <smiles>

That song of DDT is Ето всё

Other songs that actually made me cry:

Henry Hall & his Orchestra / It's time to say goodnight (yes, odd isn't it?)
Coldplay / Yellow
Brilliant Mind / Furniture (a long time ago)
A certain piece of Satie's
and there is this live version of Oh oh Den Haag ... and yes, really.

Those are some lyrics, Staz.

I'm sentimental ...

actually, the thread was called "what songs have made you actually cry" - "have made" - and you know, yes, over the course of the past, oh, twenty years, sure, theres been enough times that a song made me cry... its a long track record to dig from.
