I just got a new pc, and I am not familiar with the format. A Security Alert from Norton says the following:
mcinfo.exe is attempting to connect to a DNS server. What do you want to do?
Options:
always allow connections from this program on all ports
always block connections on this program from all ports
manually configure internet access.
I simply want to get rid of the box, as I am afraid that should I indicate a "yes", I would do something wrong.
Any explanation or help would be appreciated.
The name of the pc is emachines.
mcinfo.exe is a part of the McAffee Security Suite. Does your system have McAffee's anti-virus products install too?
If so I'd remove the McAffee applications and your problem should go away. You don't need both Norton and McAffee. They serve the same function and Norton's is, IMO, the better of the two.
In the mean time it won't hurt to either allways allow or always deny so that you quit getting the pop-up box.
Thanks, fishin', but this format is so blasted strange. I do NOT want McAffee, so I will do my best to uninstall it. Do you have any idea what BigFix is?
BigFix is a utility that is supposed to check all of the applications on your PC and let you know if there are any updates to any of them.
I suppose it could be useful if you aren't the type of person to go out and check on your own but, IMO, to many of these types of utilities is worse than none at all.
Good luck with them Ms. Letty! I relaly despise all these sorts of things being pre-installed on new PCs. I tend to reformat the new PCs before I do anything else so all of that garbage gets wiped out.
Thanks again, buddy.
I hate all this junk as well.
