has the portrayal of women in slasher films changed or evolved throughout the history of the slasher genre?
do you think women are portrayed in a more positive light in newer texts than the lder ones?
any replys are welcomed
thanks
That sounds like a pretty interesting homework assignment.
I saw Wolf Creek the other week, which is brilliant by the way.
I was glad to see one of the girls fighting back which made a change, also in The Descent they were kicking arse.
I think it is changing.Ok some are still wimpy but what they are going through is very traumatic but they have toughned up in recent years.
In the media you see women with muscles, health and fitness is a big issue.People supposedly follow the celebs so they have to reflect this in the film world.
They combine the two,put gorgeous women with big breasts in skimpy outfits so they can kick butt.
Then again they have also softened up the male hero.I cant remember which actor it was, someone like Stallone or Willis but he was in movie and he was being beaten up and not retaliating like we normally expect. Then i thought,ok he is a father that works in an office and therfore wouldnt necessarily know how to orwant to fight, which also made a change.
