Just fooling around - heard this song for the first time in a long time this week-end and it triggered some new verses in my head:
To the tune of "Jesus Loves Me This I Know" - Adapted from "Jesus Loves Me This I Know" by Anna B. Warner
Jesus loves me this I know
For he made my strength to grow
"I once was lost by now am found"-
Yes, all my chains have been unbound
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
On this I can rely.
Poets and prophets shoot the ****
And they're chomping at the bit
To be the one who hits the mark
Though they're shooting in the dark.
But, yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
On this I can rely.
But, Jesus shows me who has game
Jesus knows whose **** is lame
Jesus tells me what to do
And the how and where and who
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
On this I can rely.
Jesus taught me how to laugh
And to recognize my gaffs
Jesus is my boy, my man
He pulls it off when noone can.
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
On this I can rely.
Since I've had a friend like this
I have learned to follow my bliss
His advice is sage and wise
And boy can he philosophize...
And yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
On this I can rely.
I met Christ when I was twelve
In his parables I delved
His example has been my guide
And it's been one hell of a ride...
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
On this I can rely.
On the old rugged cross they hung him high
Suffering under blackened skies
I prefer him on the earth
Changing water to wine, celebrating mirth
Oh yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
Yes, Jesus loves me
On this I can rely
Some say Jesus is a myth
Or a mortal with a twist
It don't matter, but this I know
He's the man and he had flow..
That's why I love him
That's why I love him
That's why I love him
He's always made me smile.....
So if your life is sad and gray
And shadows always fill your days-
Rise from darkness and seek the sun
Cause it shines for everyone.
You may look to Jesus
You may look to Buddha
You may be your own messiah
Just let the darkness go....
(...or don't - just a suggestion)

That's great

so funny!
"But, Jesus shows me who has game
Jesus knows whose **** is lame"
(Kids all around the world should be reciting this!)
Thanks - I was just thinking about what a great little song that is -so simple and singable- and wanted to express what Jesus does for me - away and apart from all the religious connotations. I have a lot of respect for who he was as a person, and what he taught people-I've always thought he'd be fun to hang out with - and his teachings have always brought me comfort- they just feel right to me-whether he was a Messiah or not.
I'm glad you liked this. I wanted to tell you I liked your love poem in Spontaneous Poems- especially these two verses:
"If only we could be as one,
All of our hardships over and done,
And be united in desires,
As the heat from two dif'rent fires.
We'd walk meadows under clear sky,
And in the night, with you I'd lie,
In love, among the daffodils
'Till my heart fills -'till my breath stills."
Really beautiful imagery- very romantic, but also comforting at the same time. I was so struck by this - in my opinion some of the best writing I've seen on this forum.
