Is there anything recent and interesting such as new hardware, software, security issues that would make a good presentation?

What's your audience? If it's a non-techie CEO, he or she will probably not be interested in the latest router technology. If it's a hard core geek audience, they might dismiss a talk about the Ipod nano as being too fluffy.

So, first question: who is this presentation for?

The audience would be high school students, and I'm a high school student myself. However, the group I would be presenting to is in a special center in the school that focuses on IT.

The class ranges from hard core geeks, to average computer users. I fall into the average range, so I would need something that I understand too.

Hmmm then maybe the Ipod is the way to go. It's very good (I'm talking about the nano here) and so there is a great deal of industry buzz. Plus, it can get something of a historical context. About 10 (maybe it was 11 or 12 by now) years ago, Sony Walkmen came out, and that really changed personal interactions, in that sometimes you just saw people bopping on the street for what looked like no apparent reason. And when people waited in line, they could (and did) have music, whereas we hadn't before that.

I think the original Ipod kind of brought that dichotomy back, kind of the techno haves and have-nots. Never mind that many people spend their time yakking on their cel phones all day long; this is even less human interaction. And with a teeny tiny device, you could bring it into practically anywhere and no one would be the wiser. Do people wear them to church? School? Work? There is a social component -- or rather an avoidance of society component -- that seems to go along with smaller and less conspicuous personal entertainment devices.

PS Welcome to able2know. Smile

Very Happy Thanks for the welcome.

The i-pod nano is definetly a good idea, it would keep my class halfway entertained. ( theres an extent to how much high schoolers enjoy listening to other kids projects) I'm just wondering how much it is related to IT. Because I was also thinking about doing something with DNA computers or database management.

pssst ... it was 26 Years Ago This Past July

The 1979 Sony TPS-L2; The 1st Walkman (Only $200 - and there was a waiting list!)

And just a personal take here, by way of constructive input; I'm mebbe a bit partial, but I think the hottest IT topic right now is Computer Security and Privacy, with "phishing", "pharming", and all sortsa other spyware grabbing all sortsa attention, particularly given the growing involvement of organized crime in the yuckware business. What used to be a nuisance now really is a major, expensive, it-can-gitchya danger.

Yea, security and IT threats would have been a great presentation, but its been outdone. All IT threats were covered in presentations that we did last year.

I cannot believe that the walkman came out that long, its older than I am. I guess for some reason I thought it wasn't that old of an invention.
