Someone told me they are brothers. Does anybody know if this is true?
I looked them both up on Wikipedia, and it seems doubtful.
Tom: Born on 4/9/28, they don't say where or where he grew up.
Jim: Born on 5/19/34 in Wichita, grew up in Beaumont, Texas.
Plus there are photos of both, no resemblance other than them both being older white guys. And Tom Lehrer definitely does not have even a hint of a Texas accent.
So my guess is no, but I couldn't find anything specifically saying that. It can be difficult to prove a negative online, so this experience is not atypical.
Looking around I found references to Tom as being born in New York City, this according to both Who2.com and IMDB.com. Neither lists him as related to Jim and a search on Jim finds nobody related that closely to him by the name of Tom.
sorry, saw the name tom lehrer and became nosey. I know who he is (Irish Ballad, Under the Scottsman's Kilt, etc.) but who is Jim Lehrer?
Are Tom Lehrer
Naah. "Lehrer" is a fairly common surname. BTW,it means "teacher" in German, if I recall correctly from a course I took a couple of million years ago.
hyper - Jim Lehrer is an American newsman and novelist.
ok, i think tom leher would be more interesting. I did not know the german meaning, but appreciate the add..
@hyper426,
He was a TV news/politics-personality for many years; he and Robert MacNeil hosted the MacNeil/Lehrer Report on PBS.
@sanjan,
Tom Lehrer had/has a brother - Bill Lehrer. Bill used to come to dinner most Thursday nights at my home in Great Neck, NY. His uncle was my stepfather. I never got to meet Tom but he hitched a ride up to Boston with my mother and step-father on their honeymoon.
