A soldier has been captured by the enemy. He has been so brave that they offer to let him choose how he wants to be killed. They tell him, "if you tell a lie, you will be shot, and if you tell the truth, you will be hanged." He can make only one statement. He makes the statement and goes free. What did he say?
He could have used a paradox like "everything I say is a lie"
Not quite
Not quite, but you're getting there
Hint: the thing he said is INSIDE the riddle
If he says "I will be hanged" then he would be shot, because it would have been a lie.
So, he said "I will be shot", which is the truth but because they'd hang him if he told the truth then it is a lie so then they'd shot him but...etc...etc...
So they have to let him go.
Good job
Good job sugar! I thought that one was pretty hard!
I don't know if anyone here has ever seen "The Labrynith" but I think of the two doormen everytime I see a riddle like this.
"One of us always lies and one of us always tells the truth. He always lies, I always tell the truth."
"Oh! What a liar!"
...
Or the one where a person goes on vacation to an island where there are 2 types of people that always travel together, 1 always lies the other always tells the truth, ...
