The Parting Glass
Traditional

Of all the money ere I had, I spent it in good company,
And all the harm I've ever done, alas was done to none but me
and all I've done for want of wit, to memory now I can't recall
so fill me to the parting glass, goodnight and joy be with you all.

Of all the comrades ere I had, they're sorry for my going away,
and all the sweethearts ere I had , they wish me one more day to stay,
but since it falls unto my lot that I should go and you should not,
I'll gently rise and softly call, goodnight and joy be with you all.

If I had money enough to spend and leisure time to sit awhile
there is a fair maid in this town who sorely has my heart beguiled
Her rosey cheeks and ruby lips, I alone she has my heart in thrall
so fill me to the porting glass goodnight and joy be with you all.

if possible a version by tommy makem and the clancy brothers

Good Question

Elation - The Levellers

Oh there was once a man who had lost his own smile
And he wandered the country mile after mile
Never quite knowing what he wanted to find
For his heart it lay heavy with the weight of his mind

And he looked at the land through the tears in his eyes,
For he knew that there were those who would will her to die.
And he wept for his mother as he lay at her feet,
And he heard a voice singing him softly to sleep,

I'll be your queen, I'll be your mother, I'll be your mystical child,
Be your best friend, your lover, Your wife for all time.
Will there ever be another, in this life of mine,
Will there ever be another, like my mystical child.

So he climbed a high hill and he looked out to sea,
And he heard a voice calling out softly to him,
Open your heart boy for it needs to be free,
And the next time you're crying come running to me.

I'll be your queen, I'll be your mother, I'll be your mystical child,
Be your best friend, your lover, Your wife for all time.
Will there ever be another, in this life of mine,
Will there ever be another, like my mystical child.

So he walked through the valleys the trees and the fields,
And he came to a river where she waited for him,
And they looked at the water of life flowing by,
And he heard a voice saying, 'You're not alone in the fight',

I'll be your queen, I'll be your mother, I'll be your mystical child,
Be your best friend, your lover, Your wife for all time.
Will there ever be another, in this life of mine,
Will there ever be another, like my mystical child.

I want a four white horse drawn glass carriage, so everyone can see my brass coffin. I want family, friends, and anybody that wants to participate to sing and dance as a band plays on. The music must be laud and happy. No crying permitted! Then my body is to be burned, and my ashes to be thrown into the sea, and the wind.

"Strokin'," by Clarence Carter.

When I start makin´ love
I don´t just make love...
I be strokin´
That´s what I be doin´, huh
I be strokin´

I stroke it to the east
And I stroke it to the west
And I stroke it to the woman that I love the best
I be strokin´

Let me ask you somethin´...
What time of the day do you like to make love
Have you ever made love just before breakfast
Have you ever made love while you watched the late, late show
Well, let me ask you this
Have you ever made love on a couch
Well, let me ask you this
Have you ever made love on the back seat of a car
I remember one time I made love on the back seat of a car
And the police came and shined his light on me, and I said:
´I´m strokin´, that´s what I´m doin´, I be strokin´´

I stroke it to the east
And I stroke it to the west
And I stroke it to the woman that I love the best
I be strokin´

Let me ask you something...
How long has it been since you made love, huh?
Did you make love yesterday
Did you make love last week
Did you make love last year
Or maybe it might be that you plannin´ on makin´ love tonight
But just remember, when you start making love
You make it hard, long, soft, short
And be strokin´
I be strokin´

I stroke it to the east
And I stroke it to the west
And I stroke it to the woman that I love the best, huh
I be strokin´

Now when I start making love to my woman
I don´t stop until I know she´s sas-ified
And I can always tell when she gets sas-ified
´Cause when she gets sas-fied she start calling my name
She´d say: ´Clarence Carter, Clarence Carter, Clarence Carter
Clarence Carter, ooooh ****, Clarence Carter´
The other night I was strokin´ my woman
And it got so good to her, you know what she told me
Let me tell you what she told me, she said:
´Stroke it Clarence Carter, but don´t stroke so fast
If my stuff ain´t tight enough, you can stick it up my...´ WOO!

I be strokin´ Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
I be strokin´

I stroke it to the east
And I stroke it to the west
And I stroke it to the woman that I love the best, huh
I be strokin´
I be strokin´ Ha! Ha! Ha! Ha!
I be strokin´, Yeah!
I be strokin´

I stroke it to the north
I stroke it to the south
I stroke it everywhere
I even stroke it with my... WOO!

I be strokin´
I be strokin´ Ha! Ha!
I be strokin´

An old family song, sung to me every Saturday night when I return from the Pub.

<AHEM>

'Don't jump off the roof, Dad
You'll make a hole in the yard
Mother's just planted petunias
The weeding and seeding was hard

If you must end it all, Dad
Won't you please give us a break
Just take a walk down the park, Dad
And there you can jump in the lake.'

.................It normally brings me down.
