All through the night the thumping of my yesteryear kept hammering the walls of my soul. Individuals I have touched and those who touched me, kept walking through the corridors of my mind. Thump, thump thump.

As I awaken and reflected on my nights journey, I realized the vast majority of individuals I have encountered throughout my life have entered this world, lived their experiences, and ultimately fade as the water of a moving stream rushing to fulfill the allotted time of that which was before it.

Only a few of those who shared my youth and mature years remain now. All had lived, loved, been loved, and carried out the routine of schooling, working, marrying, securing the American dream - buying a home, or automobile, having children, raising them better than they were raised, and finding a troubled peace from the good and evil of their intentions in their waning years.

I remember visiting the shut-in. There were three in particular. One was to a friend in his sixties hospitalized with assorted ailments. It is as though he has reserved a room for himself there. He had secured the American dream, and yet in review his life it has served only to land him in this predicament of relativism, yet alone in the joy and sadness that parallelism requires when followed as everyone else does.

My next visit was to a nursing home to see a friend from grade school. We were the same age. He was a retired truck driver who also achieved the American dream. Yet, when I walk in and saw him, I almost didn't recognize him. He was being served lunch in the dining room but could not tell the servers what he wanted even after being told what was available. He was in a wheelchair and looked ten-time older than he was. He is now deceased.

She was ninety-three years old at the time. She has been a churchgoer as long as I have known her. She walk slowly and somewhat steady but frail, and declining. She she was headstrong, and her god (money). She no longer the independent woman of days gone by, and had to be cared for to continuously. She also is now deceased.

This the form of life that is the flesh's journey. To be born, to learn the ways of the world, to live a few moments in joy, and pain, and suffer in their mature years broken in mind, then die leaving the same hole barren as it was when one fell into it. Life always collect its debt, and life's debts are the intent of one reaping what they sow. The price of glory of one's self-righteous pride of self-condemnation.

The moral here: "Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant in the midst of thee. Thou shalt worship no other god; for the Lord, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God. Lest thou make a covenant with one called thee, and thou eat of his sacrifice” Ex. 34:12; 14,15.
