Unfortunately fringe theories – without proof – are the impetus for pretty much everything Trump's government has done so far. Just yesterday Musk revealed that he'll believe the theory first, and recant if he has to.

I haven't heard of field artillery and self-propelled weapons of war being employed by Mexican drug cartels. I think that would have been a major news story. And there's no reason for drug cartels to buy military small arms from overseas when the world's biggest producer and marketer of civilian firearms is set up right across your northern border and trade in contraband weapons has been a major industry for years.
