I have a Gateway P4, 384MB, 37 Gig purchased in 2000. I am tired of dealing with Windows ME. I am told It should handle XP Home fine so I purchased OEM from PC Club locally. Can anyone walk me through the swap? There are no files I wish to save.
Thanks,
Beaver
I'm not a geek so I can't give you specific advice, just my own experience. I upgraded from Win98SE to XP Home. Didn't have a problem. I then upgraded from XP Home to XP Pro. Didn't have a problem. Either I'm just lucky or the upgrade isn't full of the issues that some say it is.
Having said that someone will be able to help you with a bit more info here for sure.

Then just put in the CD and follow the prompts. Any choices you are faced with don't make much of a difference if you don't plan to save files (because one of the choices is to do a format and reinstall, which would be a good clean-up).
Like Craven said.. Best to choose ntfs instead of fat32 when xp prompts you to choose a file sytem.
