Ross went for an interview in a High School for the post of a professor in mathematics.
Interviewer, who essentially was the princi of the School, asked, "What is more important? Maths or Common-Sense..."
Ross said, "Maths"
Princi, "Why?"
Ross, "Coz Its the language of the universe"
Princi said "Ok. You have a paper and a pencil. I draw a line on the paper. ",
He draws an inch line, " Make it smaller."
Ross says, "Erazer..."
Princi said "Oh you cannot have it."
Ross is thinking.
He can neither tear the paper nor fold it
He has no ways of erazing the line.
He has just the paper and a pencil.
He is applying his mathematical skills.
Can you guys solve the puzzle & make Ross realize whats more important ... Maths or Common-Sense?
You start out with a line like this:
l
add: er to the right
add: smal to the left
result:
smal l er
common sence...

Nice Try
This does not make the line short and smaller....
or you draw a longer line next to it
The long line is longer, so the other line must be the smaller one.
common sence..

You want the line to be physically smaller?
I guess shrinking the paper is out of the question too?
Hm.. interesting problem..
One more question, do you know the answer?
Whim
What if he draws another line on top but overlapping to form a T shape.
from l to T
The vertical part is now the thickness of the horizontal line smaller.
