Changing settings for wav foot pedal

I am setting up at home to do medical transcription and have everything all set up but when I use the foot pedal it's backwards from what I am used to, i.e. the forward and backwards pedals are opposite of what it should be. Also am unable to set the "back-step" but that probably all goes in changing the settings. I tried going into the settings and tried changing things but was not successful.

Another thing is I heard a lot of static and the lady I work for didn't hear that static. Why would that be?
