A king once said,
"fight for your kingdom,"
and lives were lost.

A king who claimed divine gifts,
A king who was no more than a peasant,
no more than a person,
like everyone else,
yet some believed his lies,
believed it to be a noble cause,
while the king,
who was the most pitiful of all,
watched and drowned himself in a sea of greed.

while the banners waved,
for fool's gold and selfish plunder,
mistaking it for duty.

A pope once said,
"fight for God,"
and lives were lost.

A pope who claimed divine command,
a pope who was no more than a peasant,
no more than a person,
like everyone else,
yet some believed his lies,
believed it to be a noble cause,
while the pope,
who was the most pitiful of all,
watched and drowned himself in a sea of greed.

While the people fight,
for trade routes and political plans,
mistaking it for divine light.

A radical once said,
"fight for the republic,"
and lives were lost.

A radical who claimed knowledge,
a radical who was no more than a Girondist,
no more than a person,
like everyone else,
yet some believed his ignorance,
believed it to be a noble cause,
while the radical,
who was the most pitiful of all,
watched and drowned himself in a sea of madness.

While the river turned red,
for paranoia and deceit,
mistaking it for a righteous road.

A speaker once said,
"fight for your race,"
and lives were lost.

A speaker who claimed superiority,
a speaker who was no more than a Jew,
no more than a person,
like everyone else,
yet some believed his hatred,
believed it to be reason,
while the speaker,
who was most pitiful of all,
watched and drowned himself in a sea of ignorance.

While the camps were fenced,
for hatred and idiocy,
mistaking it for science.

A comrade once said,
"fight for the society,"
and lives were lost.

A comrade who claimed control,
a comrade who was no more than a kulak,
no more than a person,
like everyone else,
yet some believed his promises,
believed it to be selfless,
while the comrade,
who was most pitiful of all,
watched and drowned himself in a sea of ignorance.

while the cult walks,
for degradation,
mistaking it for importance.

A senator once said,
"fight for freedom,"
and lives were violated.

A senator who claimed justice,
a senator who was no more than a socialist,
no more than a person,
like everyone else,
yet some believed his political tactic,
believed it to be real,
while the senator,
who was most pitiful of all,
watched and drowned himself in a sea of ignorance.

While the house was active,
for self-indulgence and manipulation,
mistaking it for freedom and the good.

How many more will be added,
in the list of mistakes,
in the list of ignorance,
is up to us,
to learn,
from what been sadly shown by the dead.
