Hi. Happy Juneteenth 2023! I know the holiday is a big thing now now that it's been officially designated a federal holiday in the U.S., but how does one properly observe, celebrate and/or observe the holiday?

Please help. Thank you.

@JGoldman10,
Did anyone here do anything special for the holiday?

@JGoldman10,
It was a wonderful idea to incorporate Juneteenth, into our National Holidays. It might make it difficult to try and pretend slavery never existed and then celebrate President Lincoln freedom of the slaves (But for some strange reason, slaves in Texas (and Texas had a hopper load of slaves) never heard about the US law change, and stayed enslaved for 24 + months. But perhaps that's just Texas, slaves made them a lot of money......and they didn't pay them.

I'm always in favor of people living their own free lives, Thank you Abe Lincoln

@JGoldman10,
Jason, observance, celebration and commemoration is a personal matter for each individual.

Some find solace and inspiration for everyday life due to the struggle that has enabled them such splendid opportunity today.

@izzythepush,
It's an American holiday.

@JGoldman10,
Really?

Probably because we'd abolished slavery long before you got round to it.

@JGoldman10,
Have you no inner interlocutor? Don't you ever question, even once, why you do these borderline offensive questions?

How do you plan to celebrate your next sprained ankle? (you have no idea how difficult it was to get that down in a way so as to not court being hidden)

@tsarstepan,
Sounds more like a functionary than a villain.

@izzythepush,
Bureaucratic villains are the worst.

You need to fill out Form 172.02H in triplicate. (And there's no online application!) Before the villain can disembowel you and feed you to their sharks with laser eyes.

@tsarstepan,
A functionary may not be a villain.

Castellan Spandrel* was a non villainous functionary in a Tom Baker adventure set on Gallifrey.

* From memory, I may not have the name completely right.
