First you need to know what Super 35 is to answer, basically when a movvie is filmed in Super 35, more area is filmed than you really see. In editing directors cut a 2.35:1 format out of the Super 35 area for example:

2.35:1 image taken from super 35 fillm:

Full super 35 frame, with a white box that shows where the 2.35:1 format was cut out:

Scroll down to super 35 section to learn more:

My question is, have the super 35 fillms like termonator 2 ever been released in 16x9 format to show MORE fillm area and to fit wide-screen TVs perfectly?

I know the directtor cut out a 2.35:1 format and a 4:3 pan/scan format from the full area of the super 35 fillm, which means he or anyone can easly make a 16x9 cut of it aswell.

I believe the last DVD edition of T2 is letterboxed even for 16:9 screens which seems to be typical for the studios as other Super Panavision images like "Blade Runner" and "Titanic" are also letterboxed on 16:9 TV screens. Super Panavision images which were extracted for use with anamorphic lenses in special theaters were as much as 2.65:1. The original "Ben Hur" which I saw at the Egyptian theater in Hollywood was in this ultra-wide format. It's been dropped in most cases although there are some theaters like Big Newport in Newport Beach, CA which can handle the format. I believe they did show "Titanic" in the 2.65:1 as they've had the special anamorphic from the opening of that theater. It likely lopped off some of the top and bottom of the image.
