Actually, spiders are not insects, they are arthropods.

Now you're bored and want to change the subject.

Since it's my thread and I'm using bugspotting rules? AKA I'm allowing spiders into the discussion.

@tsarstepan,
I used to work with a guy whose last name was Roach. He had them tatted all over his body, wore roach-in-resin rings, nicknamed his car "The Roach, and even apparently bought roach wallpaper.

I think he went a little far Smile But he was a fun dude. After I left, I learned they were having a baby and wondered how he'd work the word "Roach" into it Smile I mean, he couldn't call it Cok Roach...

@Yalow,
The thread title refers to bugs, not insects.

Bugs is a catch all term to include all manner of creepy crawlies, (another catch all term,) it would include insects, spiders, woodlice, (which I believe are crustacians) worms and centipedes.

@tsarstepan,
I'm not usually scared of spiders, I don't like big ones, but I can normally look at them no problem.

The other day I felt something on my arm, and ghere was a really big sod. I squealed like a little girl and squashed it, ( no fiddling around with bits of paper this time.)

@izzythepush,
Crying or Very sad Dang. Crying or Very sad

I've been much better in reacting calmly towards bugs like house centipedes. For a long time, seeing one would throw me into a Panic. I now handle them calmly and assuredly ... while escorting them out the kitchen window.

@tsarstepan,
Our centipedes are tiny and don't come in the house.

William Burroughs had a real loathing of them, they feature prominently in his writings.

@izzythepush,
House centipedes tend to be pretty small (about an inch). Which makes my former Irrational fear even more sadsack.

We in the northeastern part of the US welcome our new large lanternflies consuming overlords.

What’s Shy, Has Eight Legs and Eats Spotted Lanternflies?
Quote:
The joro spider is unusually large, about the size of a Post-it note. It moves through life on long, tentaclelike legs. It is hair-raising if you do not like spiders.

And it is “only a matter of time” before joro spiders make their way to New York, said Andy Davis, a research scientist at the University of Georgia.

But there might be an upside to the impending arrival of the joro, originally from Asia. It eats spotted lanternflies, the invasive pest that officials have said New Yorkers should kill on sight.

Joro spiders were first seen in the United States about 10 years ago, in Georgia. They have since spread to Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee, and sightings have also been reported in Maryland and West Virginia, according to iNaturalist, an online network of people sharing information about nature. Davis said it made sense for the spiders to head north, because the Mid-Atlantic region is at about the same latitude as places in Asia where they are widespread.
