So, was Harold Arlen a genius or what? I think he was. I like the music at the very beginning, as the MGM lion is roaring.
To a great extent, it's really Arlen's music that makes the film the great vehicle that it is. The songs all have a life of their own, quite apart from the story of Dorothy and Oz. Most have become standards.
I had read the book before seeing the movie and with the wisdom of my tender years was sure that the movie was WRONG.
