It appears as if this has fixed a lot of stuff. Ewido fixed the elite.... hijacker or whatever it is. I keep getting a brief message on startup asking if I want to turn on / off the DVD disk driver. I shows the same listing as the "Global Startup" RAMASST.exe in the log file.

Everything else seems to be fixed. Whew, what a long list of stuff to go through but hopefully worth it.

Thanks,
David

Mebbe I confused you - I meant for you to post your new log to your exiating thread - but nevermind, we'll carry on from here. Please post all responses to this thread - just click "Reply".

RAMASST is no biggie - it disables Windows built-in CD burning capabilities in favor of whatever 3rd Party burning app that installed it.

Looks like most of the yuckware is gone. However, you still don't have HJT in its own folder on your C:\ drive - you really should install it properly. Also, I don't notice Spywareblaster or Spybot S&D signatures, which, if they had been installed and configured as directed, I'd expect to see.

Anyhow, run HJT one more time, With no other applications running or browsers or other windows open, place a checkmark next to each of these:

O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [stratas] ggfig.exe

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)

O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Uninstall BitDefender Online Scanner v8 - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)

Click "Fix Checked", then run CCleaner one more time. Reboot again when CCleaner has completed, and immediately run HJT again, this time just saving the log and posting it back here.

Just FYI, this one: O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [stratas] ggfig.exe bothers me some (its a trojan signature); I'd have thought it would have been cleared up, but apparently not. If it reappears in your next HJT log, we've got some work to do yet.

Please bare with me, I am no computer guru. I tried to place HJTHIS in the root directory as instructed but when I click on C: it says all the files are hidden. The folders are there which I can access but I can't access the root directory. That is why I didn't install it in the root directory. Spyware S&D and Spyware Blaster are installed per instructions and I ran them per instructions. There is now icon for each on my desktop. I followed the instructions very closely but I could have made a mistake somewhere.

I stopped the DVD message by finally allowing it to deactivate.

Thanks,
David

Again, no biggie, and I ain't mad or anything - don't worry. I'm a bit puzzled that you seem to have "Hidden Folders" - your Windows Explorer should be configured to "Show all files".

Anyhow, to place HJT in its own folder, if you want to, try this:

Open whatever folder you have the original .zip file in.
Right-click on the zipped folder

Select "Copy" - don't open it, just copy it, then close the folder and go to your desktop.

On your desktop, right-click "My Computer", select "Open", locate your root drive folder, which in your case prolly will be called "Local Disk ( C: )", right-click on that, and select "Open"

When that has opened, go up to that folder's toolbar, click "File", select New>Folder. In the dialog box under the new folder that will appear, type "HijackThis", then double-click the folder to open it.

When it has opened, right-click anywhere in the blank space, and select "Paste". The copied HJT zipped folder should appear.
Now, Right-click on the zipped folder, select "Extract all", and follow the Wizard prompts. The zipped files should extract into a regular folder, named "Hijackthis", alongside the zipped folder.

Open the new folder, and you should find the HijackThis.exe icon. Right click on it, and select "Send to" >"Desktop (create shortcut)".
Close the folder and exit to your desktop.

There you should find a shortcut to HighjackThis. From then on, use that shortcut to launch HJT, and it will run from its own folder on your root drive.

Now back to the immediate deal at hand, if you could perform the HJT fixes I recommended above, then post a fresh HJT log, it would be helpful. Also, if back when you first ran EWIDO, you saved its first log, which would be the long one with the list of fixes it performed, I'd like to see it, too. If you didn't save it, we'll just get along without it.
