[Resolved] Unable to get rid of lop.com explorer bar

Apart from a couple minorly troubling things, that log looks fairly clean. I suggest we work at getting rid of that LOP toolbar before doing anything else, though.

Did you uninstall MessengerPlus through Add/Remove Programs? That shoulda - not that it always does, but it shoulda - uninstalled the LOP toolbar as well. A bug in some versions of MessengerPlus sometimes leaves the toolbar behind; one method of remedying that is to download and install the latest version of MessengerPlus and the Sponsor Program (shudder) - HERE, then rebooting, going to Add/Install Programs, and uninstalling MessengerPlus one more time and rebooting again.

Make sure no other programs are running during uninstall, especially Internet Explorer. If you run the uninstall while Windows is in normal mode, use Task Manager to ensure that no iexplore.exe - that's iexplore.exe, mind you, not explorer.exe - leave explorer.exe alone - processes are running before attempting an uninstall of Messenger Plus!. Also, anti-adware programmes, antivirus programmes and other protective software that actively monitor a computer system can interfere. It is prolly best to do the uninstall from safe mode.

lop.com (the Sponsor Program) dosn't come exclusively from Messenger Plus!; there is a remote chance it may be a version that is unrelated to MessengerPlus. If that's the case, uninstalling Messenger Plus! won't do any good, and another method will have to be used to get rid of it. Thats not real common, but it does happen. If necessary, we can deal with it, but for now don't worry about it.

Sometimes the lop.com provided uninstaller works - available here - but bear in mind that's provided by the folks who got you into the mess in the first place; I'd consider that route a last resort thing.

Before trying the badguys' own fix, try this:

Open Microsoft Antispyware, select "Advanced Tools", then select "System Explorers". Start with "Applications", select "Downloaded ActiveX, and look for (it'll be easier if you maximize the Microsoft Antispyware window) anything related to lop.com, or to C2Media - if its there it should be flagged with either a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark or a red square with a white X in its center (I think). If you find anything suspicious, select "Block this ActiveX".

Go back to "System Explorers", select "IE BHOs", and again look for yellow or red flags, and/or anything related to lop.com or to C2Media. If you find a lop-related entry, select either "Block this BHO" or "Permanently remove this BHO"

Now go back to "System Explorers", select "IE Settings", select "Restore all IE default settings", and confirm.

Exit Microsoft Antispyware, reboot, and see what happens.

Spybot S&D also might be able to rid you of the pest, using tweaks and settings found in its advanced mode, but lets see what happens with Microsoft Antispyware first.

As suits your convenience, keep me posted on how you're doing, and if you get any error messages, try to report them here verbatim - all the words and numbers, and describe what you were doing when the error occurred. Thanks, and good luck.

One of the troubling things is that HJT is not in its own folder either in your Programs folder or on your root drive - it really should not be run from the desktop or from a temporary folder, which is where you have it now. As for MessengerPlus without the Sponsor Program, theoretically it should be OK. Personally, I wouldn't take the chance, but that's up to you.

When HJT has finished, locate and launch CCleaner, having it clean the system, then reboot.

Update Ad-Aware SE, EWIDO, Microsoft Antispyware, and Spybot S&D, and run a full system scan with each, fixng whatever, if anything they find. Save the EWIDO log. Following that series of scans, locate and launch CCleaner and once again clean your system then reboot normally.

I suggest you go to Panda ActiveScan, and follow the instructions to do a full system scan and clean, and to save the resultant log. When you've done that, reboot, then immediately run an HJT scan, fixing nothing, just saving the log, and then run EWIDO one more time, also saving the log. Then navigate back to this thread and post the 4 requested logs: 1 HJT, 1 Panda, and 2 EWIDO.

It seems you're just about cleaned up, but I'd lke to make sure before telling you so. If your next logs come out as I expect they will, you're done.

Actually, that looks pretty clean now - I don't see any suspicious signatures in the latest logs. It seems to me you've pretty well cleaned things up. Are you experiencing symptoms that lead you to think you're still infested?

Afterthought - if you want, though I don't think it will be necessary, you can do this:

Download Option-Explicit's Pocket KillBox. Extract Killbox from the zip file, but don't do anything with it yet - just keep track of where it is.

First, go to Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs, and look for "GameSpy Arcade"; if its there, remove it and reboot into safe mode.

Next (and I'm assuming you have configured Windows Explorer to "Show All Files", as originally instructed), in safe mode, open Windows Explorer (Windows key + E or right-click "My Computer" and select "Explore") and navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data and look for the folder "real great dead warn". If you find it, open it and look for the files

Aim Hole.exe
Delete Manager.exe
inter send.exe
Kindwave.exe
Third play.exe

If the listed files are present, see if you can delete them. If you can, fine, if not we'll deal with that in a bit. Now navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\Rob\Application Data\SUPPORT WAY SIXTH, look for the file BIN BLAH.exe, and do the same thing - see if you can delete the file. Finally, navigate to C:\Program Files\GameSpy Arcade\Services\gspoker, and look for and try to delete the file oledlg.dll.

If any or all resist deleting, then locate and double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. When it opens, choose Tools > Delete Temp Files and click "OK", then in Killbox put a check next to "Delete on Reboot". Copy and paste each of the following lines, if the exact listed item was found but resisted deleting, one at a time into the upper box. Click the red button with the white "X" after each. You will be asked if you want to reboot each time you click; select "NO" until you've pasted the last file name, then you should select "Yes" (be very careful with KillBox; its a one-way ticket out of town for anything its told to get rid of).

Now, when Killbox asks to reboot, permit it to do so by selecting "Yes". Following the reboot, use Windows Explorer again to verify the targets are gone; they should be. Following that, use Windows explorer to locate, and if found, try to delete the following folders (just the specific full-path-listed folders, not their parent folders)

If you can delete them, fine, reboot and move on to the next step below. If any or all resist deleting, use the same KillBox proceedure as before (again being careful to instruct KillBox to remove only the exact, full-path-listed items) to delete the resistant ones, then move to the next step below.

Following the reboot, while not connected to the internet, make sure no other windows or browsers are open, or any messaging, email, or chat clients, and no background monitoring or privacy/security apps, such as antispyware, antivirus, ad-blockers, or pop-up stoppers, are running (disable them temprorarilly if they are), locate and launch CCleaner, select "Issues", and in the left panel, uncheck "Unused File Extensions", then click "Scan for issues". When the scan has completed, click "Fix All Selected issues", and when prompted, save the registry backup it will offer to perform, then in the "Issues" popup that opens, select and confirm that you wish to "Fix all issues". When that has been done, select "Cleaner" and run a full system scan-and-clean.

Reboot normally, immediately run a scan-and-save-log with HJT (fxing nothing), make sure your privacy/security software is re-anabled, connect to the internet, navigate back to this thread, and post the fresh HJT log for confirmation that all the nasties are gone.

That's a clean log; looks to me this one can be marked "Resolved". And you're entirely welcome - glad we could help. "Cheers" right back atchya.

Test things a while, make sure all is as it should be, then you can go ahead and delete the tools and programs you're not going to be using any more. I do recommend hanging on to, and using, Ad-Aware SE, CCCleaner, Microsoft Antispyware, Spybot S&D (though I DO NOT recommend its "Tea Timer" feature; that's sorta buggy), and SpywareBlaster. The others can go; they won't hurt anything, but they do take up some disk space.

When you're ready, run CCleaner one more time, reboot into safe mode, defrag your machine, then re-enable System Restore, set a fresh restore point, reboot normally, and Stay Safe Out There.
