@InfraBlue,
Why a shotgun?

@Glennn,
Dang if I know. It would be an awkward thing to have in your hand if you had to answer a knock on the door.

@roger,
A handgun would serve such a purpose, if you ever had to gain control of a situation. A 22 caliber is easy to aim, and it isn't as deafeningly loud as a 45.

@glitterbag,
I keep a PPK in .380 assessable. It's not very big, but I bet it would hurt. It also fits my hand and points real well. Handguns are all I own, by the way.

@roger,
This whole thread started about the recent school massacre in Texas and now we are talking about guns. Only a baldfaced idiot believes they need an AR-15 to protect their home, I think the idea of holding one makes them feel more masculine.

Unfortunately, too many of these people believe that the government will be sending black helicopters to their homes and they need the weapons to prevent the takeover of America by the liberals. It's time to begin teaching civics in the classrooms again. We are being overwhelmed by the easily spooked non-readers.

@roger,
Home invasions don't usually begin with knocks at the door.

You answer knocks at your door with a gun in hand?

What, are you a crystal meth dealer? A violent insurrectionist?

Knocks on the door are how the bad guys determine if anyone is home.

A neighbor of mine in her late 80s had a knock on her door. She is not very mobile and uses a walker so it took her a while to get to the door. before she could get there, the door came crashing in. This was a quality solid door with a deadbolt, but the entire door casing was broken loose from the block walls. Luckily she was still several feet back when the door came crashing in. As soon as the perp saw her standing there, he jumped in his car and took off. He had parked his car on the curved driveway so that it obscured a view of the door from the street.

@mesquite,
Wow. I wonder how often that technique is used. They were probably casing your neighbor's house, and knew she was a senior. Does your neighbor pack heat when she answers knocks at her door?

One thing that potential school shooters have learned from Uvalde is that if you first go to the principal's office and demand the key to the room you've targeted, law enforcement will be forced to wait outside the room until another key can be found.

@InfraBlue,
cops should be trained to just break down the ******* door. in uvalde situations. that's what they do when they gun down innocent people like breonna taylor with no knock warrants. doors are cheap in comparison with lives.

They should break down locked doors in these situations. Or, as in Uvalde, when the door isn't locked, just barge in.

Knocking on doors to determine if anyone is home is a common technique around here. With most households now having two earner incomes it presents more opportunity to burglarize unopposed in the daytime than nighttime. I doubt any casing was involved. No, she wasn't packing.

When anyone knocks on my door they are greeted with the barking of a very ferocious sounding German Shepherd. What the bad guys don't know is that he just wants someone to play ball with him. Smile

So, in this instance, the mere presence of a walker-bound senior was enough to thwart a home invasion. No firearms necessary.

Angeli Gomez is still being harassed by Uvalde cops, to the point where she's sent her 2 boys to stay elsewhere so they "don't feel like they have to watch cops passing by, stopping, parking" at home. She's gonna sue along with at least 15 other parents.

That's right. These guys are just looking for an easy score and in case they are caught want to avoid the higher penalties that go with assault or armed robbery.

Assault weapons could be useful to citizens in situations that really might occur, such as a home invasion or to rebel against a dictatorial government.

Experts in firearms are pretty much in agreement that a weapon that shoots through the target, then through the adjacent wall and into the next room are not appropriate for self defense during a home invasion. And it's an extremist fantasy that people are going to rise up against a tyrannical government to defend the constitution.

You guys just love to greatly outnumber someone, don't you? That's the liberal's standard method of fighting. I salute your great courage in joining a group of people already arguing with me. I guess I'll just have to kick your asses one by one. So, at the moment, I will argue with you and only you. When you're done, maybe I'll move on to someone else.

First of all, I note that you don't cite any of these experts. Now, you probably can find someone who will say what you claim is the expert opinion, but you can probably find someone who will say virtually anything. If you wanted to give a testimonial type argument, you'd have to poll experts, and even then, testimonials don't prove much. Weapons that fire bullets more quickly than handguns can be expected to be more effective than handguns when outnumbered, as in a home invasion.

You also say, "And it's an extremist fantasy that people are going to rise up against a tyrannical government...." Certainly there are tyrannical governments in the world. Also, there are governments that take more and more power and bully their people. It seems to me to be a bad idea to allow our government to disarm us. It also seems to me to be a bad idea to allow our government to allow us only the weakest weapons. However, when you say that it's an extremist fantasy, are you saying that it's impossible for a government to become tyrannical, or are you saying that you think it's impossible that the citizens could defend themselves? If, the latter, I'm sure the idea that citizens would be helpless against a tyranny upsets you as it does me, so what would be your solution for people to resist a tyrannical government?
