About African American-owned animation studios and comic book publishers

Hi. Happy Black History Month 2022 folks!

I am curious. What African American-owned animation studios and comic book publishers are worth looking up and doing research on?

I don't know about any African American-owned animation studios off-hand but the only African American-owned comic book publisher I know of is Milestone Comics, whose founder, Dwayne McDuffie, passed in 2011.

Milestone Comics was once big in the late '90s - they did a number of crossovers with DC Comics. Milestone eventually disbanded but their properties were all bought by and incorporated into DC Comics.

Define what you mean by African American owned.

A lot of these organisations are companies with shareholders.

At the end of the day the shareholders own the company.

So would all the shareholders have to be African American to meet your definition or just one of them?

What about management, the SEO, members of the board etc?

Would they all have to be African American?

If not how many, what percentage?
