O.K., so we've got that straightened out (like a wiggley line). What I like about these discussions has nothing to do with debate as a contest between winners and losers but of confrontational processes by which, the terms of our positions are refined. My initial theses are always gross and subject to misunderstanding, but as I deal with opposing responses, my positions become--hopefully--not only clearer to the respondent(s) but also to myself. And I hope my respondents enjoy the same benefit. It is an educational, rather than a gladatorial, process.
And it is particularly beneficial to an elderly retired man like myself who needs to exercise his mind/brain as much as possible.
