This is a really wierd problem I just came up with a few weeks ago. Whenever I highlight text in Microsoft Word and hit backspace (or delete), nothing happens. I have to manually press the backspace or delete key and delete the text. Fortunately it works with other programs, but not Word. It doesn't seem like a big deal since I can just cut the text, but it becomes a pain if you're not used to it for so long.
Try OpenOffice
You could try using a free alternative which is compatible with word. OpenOffice.org includes a wordprocessor that can save in the word format (among many other formats). The open office suite also includes alot of other useful programs all for free (spreadsheet, drawing, and presentation software). Check out the
OpenOffice features.
Hey extremenoob,
I am not sure if you got a solution to your problem. If not, try this:
Inside a Microsoft Word document window,
Goto Tools -> Options
Click on Edit Tab
Make sure that "Typing replaces selection" is checked. If it isnt, then it is a potential cause for your problem. Check it.
Click Ok.
Now try backspacing a selected text.
Hope this helps...
WoW! Thanks sreeramv! I had this same problem and viola! Now it's fixed!
hey thanks! that was my problem too.
backspace in Word
I also had the same problem, backspace didn't function. And the options>edit>typing replaces selection ... fixed it. Thanks.
