I've been reading about the documentary made by Penn Jillette and another person regarding the joke that is told by various comedians that is never told to a live audience. It is supposed to be various comedians such as Robin Williams, Whoopie Goldberg and others all telling their personal version of the joke. The joke takes many forms and all I know is the punchline "We are the aristocrats". Does anyone know if it has been released yet? Has it been aired in your area?
You can find the South Park version
here.
Yikes!!!! I don't know what I expected, but holy crap!!!!! Remind me never to ask questions unless I know the answer already. Shaken but humble, yours, glitterbag

They're making a whole documentary based on this inside 'joke'? It's a shame to waste all that profanity and obscenity without inciting so much as a chuckle.
Hi Mills, yes, a documentary has been filmed and I believe either released or about to be released. I have to give a sincere thanks to instigate who saved me from spending 8 bucks and the public embarrassment of attending a viewing. Years ago, my husband I went to a Richard Pryor concert. A lot of people thought he was too profane to be taken seriously, but really, he was a genius. He captured and presented characters in his life that most of us have no understanding of, but he made them real. Now, we don't use the same sort of colorful language used by Pryor, we couldn't get away with it and really don't want to. I have to say that the Southpark bit was a visceral punch and I don't think I want another.
The idea of the joke is not the punchline itself, it's what's in the middle. It's just comedians being creative. The whole part after the aristocrats begin the act is supposed to be made up, and the idea is to make it as filthy, crude and disgusting as possible. That's why it's different every time, and I think it would be interesting to see different comedians' takes on it.
Maybe you didn't like the South Park version (I did), but perhaps the Robin Williams version will be more to your liking. I don't know if it's enough to keep someone interested for the length of a whole movie, but I sat through that three-hour piece of ****, "The Thin Red Line", and it's got to be better than that.
oooooh, well in the case, spank my fanny and call me delores.
