What in your opinion is the best distro of linux AND what do you thing the best GUI is?

I personally prefer SuSE because of it's backing by Novell and easy install.

I also like KDE because of it's interface.

As a bonus list your favorite linux programs.

My favorites:

OpenOffice

Audacity

Linux
At the moment I'm partial to Slackware 10.1 with a 2.4.29 kernel.
hdc=ide-scsi doesn't bother me in the least.
I like KDE, though gnome and fluxbox and the "lighter" browsers are okay too, if you can do without the eyecandy. I like k3b for burning cd's and both the xine backend and frontend suit me fine for watching dvd.
I've played with a few distros.. My introduction to linux was SuSE 8.2 personal, and that was a great distro to migrate from windows.

They're all great in their own right, the best thing about linux to me is the freedom of choice, and the relative low-no cost.. It's available for free though I've purchaced several commercial distros and bought many cd's from easy linux cd's. I continue to support linux via donations and pray it remains free.

Many headaches can be solved with linux such as the hijack this tortures and it's relatively immune to viruses.. I like Linux a lot.

I like RHEL with no GUI, but that's because I like using Linux for servers and not desktops.

I tried many different linux distros a few years ago, however found Mandrake to be the best, and have stuck with it since. Im running Mandrake 10.1 on a server and a laptop.

I found their RPM packager and setup utilities to be much easier to use than any other distro, which was a key area for me.

I prefer KDE over Gnome, although I havent used Gnome for quite some time...
