I have windows messenger on my computer and don't need it so I'd like to uninstall it. How do I go about it?
Pitter, assuming windows is your operating system, do this:
start --> settings --> control panel --> add or remove programs
locate windows messenger in the list of installed programs, and remove it...
Thanks, I tried that but "windows messenger" doesn't appear on the list. I friend told me it can be tricky to remove.
If you are referring to the annoying popups what you need to do is to disable a service called "Messenger". In XP this can be done via start menu -> control panel -> administrative tools -> servies. When you've started the program used to handle services, find the service called "Messenger" and select stop to stop it. This will prevent further popup messages. In order to make sure that the service isn't started every time you reboot your computer, you need to choose "disabled" as well.
A manual way:
start --> run, and try the following command
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

This has nothing to do with Windows Messenger.
If you want Windows Messenger to not load automatically, right click on the icon and choose not to run at startup.
I described how to disable the Windows Messenger service. Perhaps you are confusing Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger. The two are entirely different programs.
