@snood,
I haven't heard a thing about it. I don't think it was mentioned on the PBS NewsHour last night.

What was he doing to make the cops defend themselves?

@izzythepush,
Everything that you just said about me is a lie.

Shame on you for being so dishonest.

@snood,
No, it’s not made the news over here.

Other than Israel the biggest trending story is Martin Bashir’s interview with Diana and the underhand tactics he employed.

@izzythepush,
I saw that. Is Bashir in any legal trouble over that?

@snood,
Hard to say, the report was delayed due to duty of care reasons.

Bashir has received treatment for Covid and just undergone a double heart bypass operation and I think any legal action will wait to see if his health improves.

I went to college with Bashir although I don’t remember him, but that didn’t stop me feeling a bit envious when he was doing his high profile interviews.

I don’t envy the poor bastard now though.

@izzythepush,
That reminds me of a similar situation of mine. I worked as a DJ in my college radio station ( eons ago - in the70s) with a beautiful young lady named Maureen O’Boyle. Later she became a TV interviewer on tabloid shows like A Current Affair and Extra. I would see her on TV and be a bit envious.

@snood,
At least you remember her.

I’ve wracked my brain trying to remember Bashir but I can’t.

One of my college friends remembers him really well, but for me there's nothing.

@snood,
I don’t know if Bashir is completely to blame. He has dirty fingers, but I bet he’s not the only one. The report made a big deal about how this interview had fallen far below the BBC’s journalistic standards.

The BBC has been riddled with establishment Oxbridge types ever since it was established. Bashir is none of those, he’s of Indian heritage and he went to the same shitty college as me.

I think he’s being hung out to dry.

@izzythepush,
The BBC has always been crap journalism. Channel 4 News is much better.

The BBC is bound by a Royal Charter to be impartial.

It’s a legal obligation, which is why propaganda machines like Fox and the knuckle scrapers who watch it hate the BBC.

@oralloy,
Please excuse what seems like a rehash, as I see the thread had progressed.

Aspergers isn't a developmental issue, as there are plenty of highly intelligent people with it. It is definitely a wiring issue, but often not a particularly problematic one. Refusing to grow also isn't being developmentally disabled - it is refusing to grow. Many adults slow down on this after around the 40 year mark. But there is definitely a reason for sadness when someone ardently refuses to grow.

Your issue isn't being developmentally challenged - it is that you are smart enough to grow, and dogedly choose not to. You can't grow by forcefully burying your head in the sand.

In the middle of the protests over police brutality and a pandemic, 19 black families have joined forces and purchased 96.71 acres of land in Toomsboro, Georgia. They plan to build a new, safe city there.

Ashley Scott, a Georgia-based realtor, started The Freedom Georgia Initiative with a few like-minded people.

In an op-ed for Blavity, Scott explained that the idea came after the death of Ahmaud Arbery, a black man who was killed by a group of white men while out on a jog.

@edgarblythe,
I expect the state government to search for ways to restrict the town from meeting its goals. Don't know how. Where there's a will there's a way.

@edgarblythe,
They are going to face resistance that will probably operate behind the scenes from racists imbedded in offices of authority- refusing them licenses, not allowing access to the resources needed to make a new town viable. I mean, this is Georgia.

The black man that was tased, punched, kicked and dragged by officers after a high speed chase is named Ronald Green.

There are some things I will be watching for more information on:

This happened two years ago, and it’s taken this long for some news organization to get hold of the damning body cam video. But local DA is saying the video was released “prematurely”.

That would make sense if the local authorities had been having an ongoing investigation into this. But the opposite is the case. They have been trying to cover up the facts about this man’s death from the moment it happened.

The initial police report said that Greene was killed as the result of running his car into a tree after a high speed chase. This lie was backed up by everyone - including the official medical examiner. There was one ER intern that made a note saying his injuries “didn’t line up” with a supposed car crash - but that note was ignored.

This killing was even more cold-blooded and brutal than George Floyd’s. The officers were recorded bragging about how they “beat the living ****” out of Mr Green. After they tased, beat and dragged him, they left him handcuffed face down for nine minutes while they tended to wiping blood from their hands and uniforms.

I would like to know how the chase started, but I most likely never will.

@snood,
I saw that story on the news last night. It just hollows out your soul to realize that this happens again and again and again. My limited experience with Louisiana is that it is a cesspool of corruption. I'm basing that solely on the events that occurred after my brother-in-law was found deceased on the front balcony of his home in New Orleans, and the way my son and his wife were skinned alive by a corrupt adoption agency. The racism in Louisiana is legend, it has to be stopped and I wish I knew how to do it.

@glitterbag,
I could tell you some stories about Louisiana. I was stationed at Ft Polk for five years right before retiring.
It was the first place I’d seen so many confederate flags waving proudly everywhere. They sold them from booths right along with the fireworks on July 4th.
I had never heard a car horn that plays the first few notes from “Look Away Dixieland”, before I went to Louisiana.
