@vikorr,
Those guys were clearly unclear on the meaning of "shut up".

@vikorr,
February is also when the Florida movie theater popcorn shooting trial is scheduled.

https://able2know.org/topic/234184-1

A short synopsis:

Retired police officer Curtis Reeves cannot stand people talking or texting during movies, and has a history of making a huge issue of it whenever it happens.

The guy in the row in front of him at a movie was texting his baby sitter during the movie previews.

Mr. Reeves pestered him relentlessly until the texter lost his temper and dumped his popcorn on Mr. Reeves.

Mr. Reeves then pulled a gun and shot and killed the texter (single shot through the heart).

Mr. Reeves is claiming self defense. He says he feared for his life because he thought the guy was going to do more than just dump his popcorn.

Mr. Reeves is in fact old and was more frail than the guy he shot.

The state of Florida believes that Mr. Reeves committed aggravated battery and second degree murder.

@oralloy,
Hey, that popcorn might have been hot, and that movie theatre butter can leave a horrid stain.

Chauvin and his three cronies are scheduled to be arraigned in a federal court this coming Tuesday. Their lawyers will be arguing several motions - among them a request by Lane, Kueng and Thao to have their trials separately from Chauvin (they’re saying it’ll prejudice everyone if Chauvin’s around).

Chauvin just (yesterday) filed to appeal his conviction and sentencing.

@snood,
I just read of this, too. Can they deny an appeal?

@Mame,
Definitely. And I don’t think his chances are that good. But I guess you never know with this “justice” system.

@snood,
Well, it'll be interesting to see what arguments his lawyers are using to advance the appeal. What a waste of time and money!

@Region Philbis,
I'm not surprised by this, Cops would be a target in prison.

@Region Philbis,
He was in segregation (solitary confinement) up until very recently so no one had a chance to get at him.

@Mame,
My dad was a policeman and he told he that if a former policeman gets sent to jail, they always put them in solitary for their protection. I'm surprised they let Chauvin in with the general prison population.

Yes, I was shocked, too. I guess he's going back to solitary.

@engineer,
I have no love lost for Chauvin, but who makes that decision to put a much hated individual into general population? I know it's a punishment deal, but can't we do anything to keep the convicts from killing and maiming each other.
I'm not sympathetic about his situation, he put himself into this, I'm just sick of the unabated cruelty.

If everyone could allow me to vent for a few minutes, I have avoided watching the news for a few day just to give my mind a break and some rest. But today at 4:30 EST I flipped on the news and all I can say is (a) Donald Trump is a man who cannot rise to ANY occasion (b) our population is becoming increasingly screwed up by nonsense generated hatred (c) our prison system is a mess (d) we have given religious and race based hatred the time of day when it should be punished (e) abortion 'permission' is being treated as if the Constitution was written to confirm the Bible sin-squad (f) 'religious' fundamentalists can't stop thinking about ways to squeeze women out of a
normal society (g) these 'nationalists' will not stop at just controlling women, next it will zero in on races, religions, country of origin, political parties, and then they will imagine another slight they can get outraged over, just to keep in practice.

I haven't even mentioned Ukraine or Israel................it just makes my heart ache........it's just bad news over bad news to the baddest news. (I know there is no such word as baddest, it's just how I feel today)

@glitterbag,
Agree, and I'd like to mention that I hold out no hope for the future since we're depending on the youth of today to run the countries. Watch a few YouTube videos from teachers, from K to 4th year Uni and you will despair. Not only are elementary children bringing guns to school (with a 6 yo shooter!), but they are inattentive, disrespectful and downright rude (including swearing at the teachers and coaches) in schools, ballet classes, sports, etc. Did you hear about that 9 year old (I think his nickname was RT) rapping about carrying a glock and carrying out violence while the adults listened giggled and chuckled? Nine years old!

A teacher was fired for saying "Good afternoon, girls", at a girls' school with "Girls School" in the bloody name of the school. She had to write a grovelling apology and was later fired anyway.

Teachers are quitting everywhere because of disagreements with parents on the grade. One high school teacher had many altercations with parents. The students got failing grades but were passed to the next grade. Another teacher said his 7th grade students were reading at a grade 4 level. This has been going on for years, but it's worse now with the parents allowing their children to do whatever they want and then crapping on the teachers. The Principals crap on the teachers, the School Board craps on the principals. It's just ridiculous and dangerous.

My DIL is a special ed teacher in a private school here in Canada and she told me this summer that 8 teachers have quit because of non-support from the school. My DIL is trying to find something else to do with her degrees. A friend's teacher daughter quit after 5 years (her lifelong dream) for the same reasons.

The way we treat people who are just trying to educate future adults is nothing short of criminal. I fear for the future for that reason.

Watch a few YouTubes from Gen Z's complaining about working 8 hours a day - it's pathetic.

No. We never have been and never will be able to prevent that unless everyone's in solitary.

Put all the white collar criminals in one wing; all the pedophiles in another; all the gang/cartel members in another; etc., and there will still be killings.

I'm going to take the opposite position. It is very easy to fall into confirmation bias in this day of nonstop internet feeds of angst. There are approximately 50 million school kids in the US. If 0.1% of them are difficult, that's 50,000 stories for the internet. A six-year-old did bring a gun to class, but the other 4,000,000 six-year-olds did not. Are you going to condemn all of them for that one? My sister in law is a first grade teacher with 25 years experience. My niece is also one with five years experience. When they talk about their jobs, they talk office politics, the occasional parent issue, lesson plans, pay, etc but they love their "firsties". Don't let the sensational stories on the news or the internet confuse you. The vast majority of US school kids are making their way just fine. They don't merit the front page of Google News, but maybe that's a good thing.
