@bobsal u1553115,
Yesterday I went to a school may Day fete in Bredhurst Kent.
It's near where I used to grow up.
One of the events other than maypole dancing etc was a George and the Dragon pageant.
When I was little it terrified me, I had nightmares about having to fight dragons for weeks afterwards.
I don't think my childhood self would have been scared of this dragon though. It was different, cloth instead of papier mache but that isn't the main reason.
The narrator was a very nice lady speaking rhyming couplets into a megaphone.
When I was little the narrator was a man, speaking through a PA, so you couldn't see him.
He had a gruff voice, and would do very convincing sound effects.
To my childhood self it was like hearing the news so I was already frightened long before the papier mache version hove into view.
It was great I was able to share a childhood experience with my grown up children and have a sense of completion.
