Trump Secretly Stayed in Touch With Putin After Leaving Office, Book Says

A new book by the journalist Bob Woodward also reports that Donald J. Trump, while still in office, secretly sent Vladimir Putin what were then rare Covid-19 tests for the Russian’s leader’s personal use.

Quote:
Former President Donald J. Trump has secretly spoken with President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia as many as seven times since leaving office, even as he was pressuring Republicans to block military aid to Ukraine to fight Russian invaders, according to a new book by the journalist Bob Woodward.

The book, titled “War” and scheduled to be published next week, describes a scene in early 2024 at Mar-a-Lago, Mr. Trump’s estate in Florida, when the former president ordered an aide out of his office so he could conduct a phone call with Mr. Putin. The unidentified aide said the two may have spoken a half-dozen other times as well since Mr. Trump left the White House.

The book also reports that Mr. Trump, while still in office early during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, secretly sent Mr. Putin what were then rare tests for the virus for the Russian’s personal use. Mr. Putin, who has been described as particularly concerned about being infected at the time, urged Mr. Trump to not publicly reveal the gesture because it could damage the American president politically. “I don’t want you to tell anybody because people will get mad at you, not me,” Mr. Putin reportedly told him.

The disclosures raise new questions about Mr. Trump’s relationship with Mr. Putin just weeks before an election that will determine whether the former president will reclaim the White House. A copy of the book was obtained by The New York Times. The Washington Post, where Mr. Woodward has worked for more than half a century, and CNN, where he often appears as a commentator, also reported on the book on Tuesday.

Mr. Trump praised Mr. Putin as a “genius” when he initiated the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 and since then has refused to say that he wants Ukraine to win its war against Russia. He has criticized American aid to Ukraine and leaned on congressional Republicans not to approve more assistance. He has boasted that if he wins he will negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine within 24 hours and do so even before the inauguration.

Mr. Trump has not explained how he would do so, but possible terms described last month by his running mate, Senator JD Vance of Ohio, sounded a lot like what Mr. Putin would want. Mr. Vance said that Russia could keep the Ukrainian territory it has seized by force in violation of international law and receive a “guarantee of neutrality” from Ukraine, which would not be allowed to join NATO.

Mr. Woodward’s book does not report what Mr. Trump and Mr. Putin discussed in the call in early 2024, nor does it provide details about the additional calls mentioned by the Trump aide. It quotes Jason Miller, a top campaign aide to Mr. Trump, saying that he had “not heard that they’re talking, so I’d push back on that.” But he also said that “I’m sure they’d know how to get in touch with each other” if they did want to talk.

Flash! Lifelong conman and grifter complains about the high crime rate and lack of morality lin America. He says "Only I can fix it."

He certainly can do his part to reduce the crime rate and improve morality. If he's sentenced to a lengthy stay in prison, the white-collar crime rate and incidents of immorality will significantly drop. He will be a true model of justice for young people. Do the crime and do the time.

Trump suggests using military against ‘enemy from within’ on Election Day

Former President Donald Trump suggested using the military to handle what he called “the enemy from within”
on Election Day, saying that he isn’t worried about chaos from his supporters or foreign actors, but instead from
“radical left lunatics.”

“I think the bigger problem are the people from within. We have some very bad people. We have some sick people.
Radical left lunatics,” Trump said told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo in an interview on “Sunday Morning Futures.”

“I think it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military,
because they can’t let that happen,” he added.

@roger,
We will never ever stop hearing from Trump. If he loses, he will claim he won. Then he'll just stick around cameras and microphones to hammer us constantly with all of his weak-ass complaints.

What you need to question is, how did your nation become so completely polarised along the red/blue agenda?

If there's no shades of mauve or magenta, then what's the point, really?

not to mention the fact that, as a private citizen, he's not qualified to activate the military.

'the dumb' is quite strong with him -- and his ilk...

And by your response, and lack of any kind of input, we can all assume that you're in total support of the division that is destroying your nation.

Good night Irene.

Trump sways and bops to music for 39 minutes in bizarre town-hall episode

The scene comes as Vice President Kamala Harris has called Trump, 78, unstable and called into question his mental acuity.

On Oct. 14, former president Donald Trump had to cut a town hall short in Oaks, Pa., but remained onstage for a half hour swaying to the background music.

October 14, 2024 at 11:26 p.m. EDT

OAKS, Pa. — The town hall, moderated by South Dakota Gov. Kristi L. Noem (R), began with questions from preselected attendees for the former president. Donald Trump offered meandering answers for how he’d address housing affordability and help small businesses. But it took a sudden turn after two attendees required medical attention.
Cut through the 2024 election noise. Get The Campaign Moment newsletter.

And so Trump, after jokingly asking the crowd if “anybody else would like to faint,” took a different approach.

“Let’s not do any more questions. Let’s just listen to music. Let’s make it into a music. Who the hell wants to hear questions, right?” he said.

For 39 minutes, Trump swayed, bopped — sometimes stopping to speak — as he turned the event into almost a living-room listening session of his favorite songs from his self-curated rally playlist.

He played nine tracks. He danced. He shook hands with people onstage. He pointed to the crowd. Noem stood beside him, nodding with her hands clasped. Trump stayed in place onstage, slowly moving back and forth. He was done answering questions for the night.

“Total lovefest at the PA townhall! Everyone was so excited they were fainting so @realDonaldTrump turned to music,” campaign spokesman Steven Cheung wrote on X. “Nobody wanted to leave and wanted to hear more songs from the famous DJT Spotify playlist!”

Trump has long obsessed over his playlist and aides have often described him privately DJ-ing on his campaign plane or at his Mar-a-Lago Club patio in Florida. He’s also angered music artists like Celine Dion who have requested that he no longer play their music at his campaign rallies.

As Trump stood onstage in his oversized suit and bright red tie, swaying back and forth, it was almost as if he were taking a trip back to the decades past. Trump’s decision to cut the question-and-answer portion of the town hall short and instead have the crowd stay to listen to his favorite songs was a somewhat bizarre move, given that the election was only 22 days away. It also comes as Vice President Kamala Harris has called Trump, 78, unstable and called into question his mental acuity.

Some in the crowd began to leave. Some looked around, wondering if he was done speaking for the night and how much longer the dance — or sway — session would last. Many stayed holding their cameras and watched as Trump took the music in, at times looking over at a screen beside him that showed videos of James Brown singing “It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World” and Sinéad O’Connor performing “Nothing Compares 2 U.”

The evening began to take a different trajectory when a man appeared to faint in the crowd. Trump paused his remarks. Attendees fanned the man and began to sing “God Bless America.” As the man waited for medical help, Trump mused: “While we’re waiting. So we had a beautiful evening. And I don’t know if they could get this song up quickly, but if they could work really quickly backstage while we’re waiting. ‘Ave Maria.’” The song began to play.

Trump then resumed. Minutes later, another attendee needed medical attention. Trump stopped again: “Take your time, doctor.” “Ave Maria” began to play again. Trump then quipped to the crowd: “Would anybody else like to faint? Please raise your hand. Let’s do it now.”

Trump then referred to a chart with immigration statistics that he credits with saving his life: “My all-time favorite chart. And let’s listen to Pavarotti sing ‘Ave Maria.’ They gave me the ‘Ave Maria’ with no voice.” He then pointed to a Gold Star couple whose son was lost in battle, saying: “That’s for your boy, stand up.”

He briefly returned to talking about the election and the importance of winning Pennsylvania. After Noem gave Trump the option of closing “with a specific song” or taking “two more fast questions,” he addressed one of his aides: “So Justin, how about a couple really beauties and we’ll sit down and relax.”
A teleprompter asks Trump to take two more questions from the crowd before pivoting to music. (Jabin Botsford/The Washington Post)

It was time to listen to Andrea Bocelli’s “Time to Say Goodbye.” After listening to James Brown, Trump began to speak again, as if remembering that he was still at an event that was billed as a town hall.

“This is the most important election in the history of our country,” Trump said, once again accusing Democrats of weaponizing elections. But then he went back to his music.

“Those two people that went down are patriots and we love them and because of them we ended up with some good music, right?” he asked. “So play ‘YMCA!' Go ahead, let’s go nice and loud!”

“Here we go, everybody,” Noem interjected.

The crowd cheered and danced to the Village People song from the 1970s, which celebrates gay cruising culture. Noem put her hands up in the shape of a “Y.” As the song began to end, Trump mouthed the words: “Nobody’s leaving.”

“Nobody’s leaving, what’s going on? There’s nobody leaving. Keep going,” he said, as Rufus Wainwright’s version of “Hallelujah” played next. “All right, turn that music up! Turn that up. Great song!”

Then it was “Nobody Compares 2 U” by Sinéad O’Connor. “An American Trilogy” by Elvis Presley. “Rich Men North of Richmond” by Oliver Anthony. Trump stood and swayed.

As “November Rain” by Guns N’ Roses played, he walked off the stage. He spoke to attendees on his way out, as “Memory” from “Cats” the musical played in the background.

Trump: I would've got hostages back from Russia without paying a thing!

America: You couldn't even get your own supporters back from Coachella.

The real reason the buses stopped at Coachella? The angry mob attacked the bus drivers.

Ran across these on the Coachella Valley subreddit about what really happened with the buses :

I know multiple people that worked there that night as bus drivers. The real reason they stopped shuttling them was for safety. One of the male drivers was punched in the face and had to go to the hospital and one of the female drivers had someone spit on her (ironically she's a huge trump supporter.) They were all apparently pounding on the bus windows and just generally out of control but I guess that's what happens when you go to a hate rally.

And then this was one of the responses:

My father was attacked at a rally

He works for the bus company that was doing transportation for the rally in Coachella. The rally didn't think about the logistics of 15k people and the buses weren't enough.

People got angry and began to riot. Throwing themselves in front of buses, banging on the windows and doors, and attacked two bus drivers. (One female driver was spit on by an elderly woman. The woman had to be restrained by another person from grabbing the driver by the hair)

The other driver was my father. He is a veteran and served in Vietnam and has head trauma from the war and from an car accident years ago...he was sucker punched from behind the head while he was walking outside his bus. He has a broken nose and hopefully his prior head trauma isn't worsen but won't know until some time. (He did get a CAT scan) He didn't see who hit him and he lost vision temporarily in his right eye (it's back now).

I just cannot understand this cult of violence and hate. My dad is 70 and what a coward to hit someone from behind because of something that was not my dad's fault.

The news didn't report this and even riot police showed up because of this behavior with the buses...

Just had to vent and get this off my chest. I just am angry and sad at the state of our political climate

https://old.reddit.com/r/CoachellaValley/comments/1g3p123/the_actual_reason_trump_supporters_got_stranded/

So, it was the angry mob that stopped the buses. Hope some news outlets pick up on this.
