Amen! and awoman (yes this really happened).

How ridiculous will liberals womanage to be?

In what was surprisingly not a parody, Democratic congressperson Emanuel (and Ewomanuel) Cleaver tried to address a grave injustice of history by correcting the Latin word "Amen" to be more gender inclusive by changing it to "Amen and awoman".

This dramatic changing of a history and herstory laden and lassen with injustics.

Now if they can continue this great work... if they can just get the mail service (and femail service) to run on budget again.

@maxdancona,
So typical of you, to take one idiotic statement by an individual and use it to vilify a whole group of people.

It’s what Goebbels used to do.

And you’re sounding like Setanta. He thought puns were the be all and end all of humour too.

@izzythepush,
You first compare me to Goebbels. Then to Setanta. Neither comparidaughter is appropriate.

On this thread you should be comparing me to Charles Manson.

I believe for our nonbinary friends, that must be bagged and rewritten as "theysterical".

Try to get over the label factor.

Hope you can hold it together in the wake of the approaching spring, summer and autumn...

While mulling over this and other things, ask yourself, 'Hey, Maxamillius, is Hester a derisive name to give a gal, after all, it begins with He?'.
(Since it ends in r, perhaps it's okay.)
Pooh, now ya done gone and got a maxie headache!

I had to look up the reference. That is a piece of momular culture that is unique to the United Queendom.

(Since the current British monarch was born without a penis, why is it still referred to as UK instead of UQ)?

Your ignorance of things outside your own back yard has already been established.

Your provincial mindset has never been capable of looking at the big picture.

And you looked it up. You didn’t think it’s probably an insult so I won’t bother. You did what I wanted you to do.

And I knew you would.

Wouldn't the analogous coinage be "awomen"?

@izzythepush,
My dignity!!!! We both know I have no dignity. What do I want with dignity?

You don't get it Izzy. You and I are both pathetic fools. The difference is that while you imagine yourself to be a paladin of virtue and defender of women. I don't give a ****.

I am a Nazi (you asked me to admit it and I am happy to oblige). I am also a liar, a rapist, a pedophile, a misogynist, a Trump Supporter, a moron and an idiot. If you would like to add anything, I will admit that too.

I don't know what you are trying to win here. You can't win because I don't care. You have this pathetic need to be seen as virtuous. And yet you keep following me around from thread to thread.

If you are going to be here.... why not join in on the fun? If you aren't going to joke around, I don't get why you are on this thread. Your obsession with me is kind of sad.

@Sturgis,
The non-gender "binary" is interesting from a mathematical standpoint. The problem is that our culture isn't really ready to get rid of the concept of "female". We still revere motherhood, and value the lives of women over the lives of men... but we no longer can explain why.

Our society is tearing down a key cultural artifact without having a clue about what to replace it with.

There are basic contradictions here. Since no one can deal with them openly and honestly, humor is important.

Joking about gender does seem to make certainly liberals awfully jumpy.

The usage of amen, meaning "so be it" (as found in the early scriptures of the Bible), is a word of Biblical Hebrew origin. The word originated in the Hebrew Scriptures, as a confirmatory response; it is found in Deuteronomy as a confirmatory response made by the people. Moreover, in the Books of Chronicles (16:36), it is indicated that around 1000 BC, the word was used in its religious sense, with the people responding "Amen" upon hearing the blessing, "Blessed be the Lord God of Israel from now and unto all eternity". The basic triconsonantal root from which the word is derived, is common to a number of languages in the Semitic branch of the Afroasiatic languages, including biblical Aramaic. The word was imported into the Greek from the Judaism of the early Church. From Greek, amen entered the other Western languages. According to a standard dictionary etymology, amen passed from Greek into Late Latin, and thence into English. Rabbinic scholars from medieval France believed the standard Hebrew word for faith emuna comes from the root amen. Although in English transliteration they look different, they are both from the root aleph-mem-nun. That is, the Hebrew word amen derives from the same ancient triliteral Hebrew root as does the verb ʾāmán.

Grammarians frequently list ʾāmán under its three consonants (aleph-mem-nun), which are identical to those of ʾāmēn (note that the Hebrew letter א aleph represents a glottal stop sound, which functions as a consonant in the morphology of Hebrew). This triliteral root means to be firm, confirmed, reliable, faithful, have faith, believe.

In Arabic, the word is derived from its triliteral common root word ʾĀmen[citation needed] (Arabic: آمن‎), which has the same meanings as the Hebrew root word.

Popular among some theosophists,[10] proponents of Afrocentric theories of history, and adherents of esoteric Christianity is the conjecture that amen is a derivative of the name of the Egyptian god Amun (which is sometimes also spelled Amen). Some adherents of Eastern religions believe that amen shares roots with the Hindu Sanskrit word Aum. Such external etymologies are not included in standard etymological reference works. The Hebrew word, as noted above, starts with aleph, while the Egyptian name begins with a yodh.

Missouri Rep. Cleaver says his ‘A-woman’ prayer is misconstrued to stoke division

Missouri Rep. Cleaver says his ‘A-woman’ prayer is misconstrued to stoke division

Rep. Emanuel Cleaver delivered the opening prayer as the U.S. House began a new session Sunday. He ended his prayer with the words “Amen and ‘A-woman,’” a pun he said was intended to recognize the record number of women serving in the new Congress.

Missouri Democratic Rep. Emanuel Cleaver said Monday that he was surprised by the backlash caused by his pun at the end of his opening prayer on the first day of the new Congress.

Cleaver, a Kansas City Methodist minister serving in his ninth term, delivered the opening prayer as the U.S. House began a new session Sunday. He ended his prayer with the words “Amen and ‘A-woman,’” a pun he said was intended to recognize the record number of women serving in the new Congress.

Cleaver’s words spurred a torrent of criticism from conservatives, who accused Cleaver of misunderstanding the meaning of “amen,” a Hebrew word that means “so be it.”

Donald Trump Jr., the president’s oldest son, attacked the Missouri congressman’s gesture toward gender inclusion.

“It isn’t a gendered word but that didn’t stop them from being insane. Is this what you voted for?” said Trump Jr., who incorrectly identified the word’s origin as Latin.

Cleaver, the founder of the Kansas City chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference and former pastor of St. James United Methodist Church, responded Monday with disappointment at the furor.

He said the pun was meant as a tribute to his female colleagues and to Rear Adm. Margaret Grun Kibben, the new House chaplain and first woman to hold the role.

“I concluded with a lighthearted pun in recognition of the record number of women who will be representing the American people in Congress during this term as well as in recognition of the first female Chaplain of the House of Representatives whose service commenced this week,” said Cleaver, who led the search committee that selected Grun Kibben, the former chief chaplain of the Navy, for the role.

“I personally find these historic occasions to be blessings from God for which I am grateful.”

There are 144 women serving in the House and Senate, which breaks the previous Congress’ record of 129.

@neptuneblue,
Misconstrued?

At what point do liberals start to admit that arguing over hoop earrings, censoring Christmas songs, trying to get someone fired for mentioning lingerie on an elevator...

When liberals are being ridiculous, they are open to ridicule.
