In the foreground stands the image of a tyrant,
Behind whose shoulder, in soft suffusion, a youthful face.
The contrast was delusional and illusional.
One, marbleized and expressionless,
The other a study in questions with incipient answers.
(today the president estimated the cost of war)
What must both be thinking,
Or is there total abstinence of thought?
Try as I might, I could not impose myself on either.
I put my senses on hold and thumbed through my mind.
No reference for either.
(a cacophony of news men asking questions)
and in the foreground stood the carving of two soldiers!
(stocks rise amid the explosion and detonation)
Letty, I'm stunned. You've captured the cynicism and contrast of old and young, optimism and business as usual and the chaos of senseless war.
Shall we have a poetry reading and invite Laura Bush?
Di, you are amazing. Yes, let's invite Laura. My Gawd. if the first lady can be vanquished, what hope have we simple Floridians..
hmmmm. Maybe not so simple, after all.
Thank you once again, honey
Yes ma'am, your rhyme is so timely
Reflecting our thoughts and despair-
So jumbled the -- true 'moral' judgements;
To what ring do we throw our HAT?
We sense that no bodies are left out
When dissent is put down, ANYWHERE.
Be your name, 'laura, jane, bill, or Sammy-
Keep still, mouth zipped, stick to format.
Hello miss Di- a poetry reading... ...Love your wit!!
Letty, it is not that Floridians are "simple"- They are just too diverse a group to get organized. However, One fears if they ever did-
Civil disorder might abound - at LEAST, with political parties.
What we probably need, anyway, is a Southern Party- not liberal, not conservative, but PERFECT! (don't say 'it couldn't be done'- just sing on Letty, you could be chairman)
jackie,
It is good to see you posting again on A2K. Thank you for your kind observations about my poem. The main reason that I wrote this is because I actually feel for the foot soldier who never knows from one moment to the next what will happen, and to see that picture and the expressions on both faces, was indeed a study in scarlet.
Yes ma'am,
It truly was................and IS.
