I've been working like a dog - no time for a2k, recently.

But I had to share this happy news with my international friends!

Can't resist sharing this, either...

You're looking at some serious costs (especially security these days)
to all those benefits. I hope London is one of those select few cities
that actually come out ahead.

Good luck. And mind you don't stand between the pigs and the trough.

congrats, if that's what you want. olympics in my home town is frankly the last thing on earth i would hope for, but i guess it's exciting also. we lost the bid for 2006 winter olympics (High Tatras) and I couldn't be happier. So much would have to have been built, so much forest would be destroyed, entire infrastructure changed for more access.... no thank you.

Congrats to the Londoners (and other Brits). I was rooting for you (having the games in NYC, though they wanted it, would have been a fiasco).

I feel the same way about the World Series in NYC.

Dag

There's not much forest around London these days!

The new development area is actually one of the most deprived in the UK - we're hoping that improved transport links and new stadia will really benefit us.

Most of the funding is going to be raised from our national lottery. Only the actual re-development (long term expenditure, committed whether or not we won) is going to be out of the tax revenues.

Then again, I maintain that the lottery is a tax on people who don't understand probabilities. Laughing

Agree with D'Art... disagree with George: Mets in the World Series is no fiasco (though I'd love to see the World Series in Washington!).

My favorite was Paris, my least favorite was Moscow. I only hope London is not so damn expensive in 2012.
Hosting the Olympic Games has been great for those cities who have the spirit (sorry Montreal, LA and Atlanta). One bad thing about Olympic Games is that they steep up prizes.
