Hugh Downs died Wednesday at age 99. He co-anchored the Today Show from 1962 to 1971 and then joined 20/20 until he retired in 1999...he was always a calm and reassuring voice .... they broke the mold when Hugh was born. RIP
Hugh was a fixture in those early days of television. He's another of the old ones I had long assumed to be already dead. I look back fondly on those times.

They used to make a point to announce that he was a real scholar. My dad was always telling me "You can b smarter than Hugh Downs, just dont believe everything people tell ya"
