If the native Americans feel insulted by it, I favor making the change. In my opinion, which I have not researched, the original intent was likely based on the good-natured feeling many Americans express for these people, in emotion if not actual action to see they get treated as human beings. So, the more I think about it the more I favor a change.
I have no objection to buffalo or bison.
Washington Football Team is the temporary moniker until they come up with something permanent...

@Region Philbis,
I certainly admire their creativity.
@roger,

Damn. My team "The New York Football Giants" use to be the only team that referred to itself that way. (The Jints did it because we used to have a NY Baseball Giants team also.)
Now...the Skins have upstaged us.
Most football fans simply call them The Skins. I guess they figured they would never get away with that.
Also been called by those of us in the Eastern Conference as...
The Deadskins.

That name just popped up on my newsfeed.....maybe not creative but thankfully not offensive.

How about rizlas?
Had to look it up.
Only use Easy Wider myself.
Or EZ Wider if you prefer.
@Frank Apisa,
They’re the brand over here, not the only brand by any means, but the only one everyone can name.
Skinning up is a slang term for rolling a joint over here, cigarette papers are called skins.
@Frank Apisa,
I prefer the first because it sounds like easy rider.
Heard a rumor they’re leaning toward The Washington Sentinels...
@snood,
Sentinels???? Doesn't that sound a little vainglorious?
@glitterbag,
Yeah, but I guess the reasoning is, anything’s better than redskins. I read somewhere that the idea came from the movie “The Replacements” (2000). It’s the name of Keanu Reeves’ team in the movie . It’s all speculation, though.
I also heard "Sentinels" as a possible team name.
@McGentrix,
I think speculators have "bought up" the rights to all of the obvious names with the idea of cashing big from the Team in Washington.
I wonder what the negotiations will be like.
@Region Philbis,
Beats the hell out of The Kraken
I'll never not think of that dopey attorney when I hear the word
@thack45,
Where did Kraken come from? We lost M. Giordano to them and, not being a sports fan, was confused about the name. What the hell is Kraken and how was it chosen??
