Joseph Edward Duncan III, 42, on suspicion of kidnapping and other charges. Duncan, from Fargo, N.D., is a violent sexual predator who has spent much of his adult life in prison.
Authorities planned to formally charge Duncan with kidnapping and being a fugitive from justice, and have said more charges were possible. A judge ruled Monday that there was probable cause to keep Duncan in jail until an initial court appearance Tuesday.
Major questions include: Was Duncan involved in the three initial slayings? Have the children been with him the whole time? And, if so, where have they been hiding?

I have feelings, in fact I think I must be more sensitive than most people because I seem to feel more than they do, at least more than what they openly express. I feel for the starving children and families in the world, others say, "Oh, that's too bad, but I can't do anything so..."

I keep thinking about how dehumanized I feel, like I am not wanted. I keep thinking about how people are terrified when they find out I am a "sex offender."

sex offender Joseph Edward Duncan III
found this not good stuff
Quote:
In one posting, he said he knew his 1980 sex offense was wrong, "but I can honestly say that I had no clue of the impact my actions would have on my victim, or society, or myself. ... I was abused, even raped, so often and by so many different people growing up that I thought it was like smoking pot, everyone did it, but nobody openly admitted it."

In another, he said as a teen he was sentenced to a group sex offender program "where half the men in my 'treatment group' sat and fantasized about me."

He said forcing sex offenders to register was discriminatory.

I don't think this "alleged abductor" will ever be free again.

Duncan has a sordid past with several unresolved investigations and charges pending; he's a registered (violent) sex offender; he has been driving a stolen vehicle bearing stolen plates; and he turns up in Idaho with an 8-year-old missing girl whose family was brutally slaughtered; and the 9-year-old missing brother is presumed dead (we are waiting for human remains to be identified).

Already, the circumstantial case against him is strong. It is highly likely (despite the "presumption of innocence"), that he will be convicted on multiple counts of murder, kidnapping, and child rape.

Well let's hope he is and that they say he is suitable to stand trial.

We expected this
We expected this, but it's still heartbreaking and enraging at the same time:

Remains identified as Idaho 9-year-old

Quote:
(CNN) -- Investigators said Sunday that DNA testing "positively identified" human remains found in Montana last week as those of missing 9-year-old Dylan Groene.

The death penalty is too good for this monster.

How do we protect children like Shasta and Dylan from falling victims to repeat violent, sex offenders like Joseph Edward Duncan?

I think the system was certainly broken in protecting them from this monster.

Just heard a televised news report: Duncan is now a suspect in the case of a missing little girl from Minnesota. He mentioned her in his blog and claimed to wonder where he was when she disappeared because he would probably be a suspect. As it turns out, the authorities have discovered that he was only a hundred miles away from the missing girl during the week before her disappearance.

The musings of a crime sleuth with respect to Duncan's possible involvement/connection to the missing little girl from Chisholm, MN:

Quote:
Remember, Jet Duncan also wrote the following on May 11th, 2005, five days before the massacre and kidnapping in Coeur d'Alene:

All those years I dreamed of getting out...And getting even. Instead, I got out and I got even, but did not get caught. So, I got even again, and again did not get caught. So, I figured, well, I got even twice (actually more, but that's here nor there), even if I'm the only one who knows, so now what?

Duncan admits to committing prior acts of "getting even," and not getting caught. How many children has he brutally molested and killed since his release from prison?

Idaho suspect allegedly stalked children

Quote:
Document: Suspect bragged to child about killing her family....

Shasta told detectives her ordeal began when she heard her mother call her into the living room early on the morning of May 16. There, she said, she saw Duncan wearing dark gloves and holding a shotgun.

Her brother Slade, her mother and her mother's boyfriend were bound with zip-ties and duct tape.

Duncan then bound her and Dylan and left them on the ground outside, near a swing set. Shasta said she heard McKenzie yell out several times, and at one point saw Slade stagger, bloody and incoherent, out of the home.

Shasta was insistent that Duncan was the only perpetrator, Maskell said. She said Duncan bragged to her about killing her family with a hammer and showed it to her.

This case has DEATH PENALTY written all over it.

Nancy Grace show:

A defense attorney proclaimed she would never represent anyone like Duncan--he's EVIL. She predicted that the case would never go to trial--that the authorities will accept a plea in exchange for a life sentence rather than putting Shasta through the trauma of testifying.

Nancy Grace disagreed. Lady Justice is blind to the hardship on the child witness because this case called for the death penalty. Grace stated in the long run, it would be better for the child to testify against her perpetrator (a kind of "taking back the power" type argument).
